At the 8A level, it helps to have a dominant offensive line, and Ballou helps set the tone up front. The massive left tackle is one of our top-ranked offensive linemen in the 2028 class. He’s a natural run blocker with unreal power, but he’s surprisingly nimble as a pass blocker. He and the rest of the Mallard Creek offensive line should be able to bully opponents.
The top offensive lineman in our rankings is coming off an All-Conference season as a sophomore. He’s recently picked up offers from Wake Forest, Texas, Boston College, and North Carolina, all in the month of January. Georgia, Miami, NC State, amongst others, have also offered Austin early. Ever since seeing Austin up close at a showcase when he was in 8th grade, he had big-time Power 4 potential. He is starting to realize that now, and really shows well in the running game with nice power and technique.
Ballou was high on our radar before the spring and he’s moved steadily up our board. He has elite size, but he doesn’t lumber around, as his footwork and hips are like that of a much smaller lineman. He’s a tackle all the way, something top schools often struggle to find. The offers have finally started to roll in, and we consider him an elite prospect with Power Two upside.
One of our top offensive tackles and overall players in the state, Ballou is already a massive human being, even at 14 years old. He got some run at left tackle for Mallard Creek, where he played well. He’s adjusting to his height and working on leverage, but the upside is elite here and he’s a guy who could end up being a Power Four prospect.
I was able to see Austin live a couple of times last season, and he is every bit of the size he is listed at 6’6 and 315 pounds. He moves very well for a freshman at that size though, and he has a switch that he flips once he gets in between the lines. Austin can play both tackle and guard right now – of course with his size he projects as a tackle ideally, but his strength and footwork right now I think make him a better fit as a guard while he continues to work on his body and footwork. From a recruiting perspective Austin has early offers from both Troy and East Carolina.
