Samson hasn’t released film in over a year, but I am really excited to see an updated highlight tape.
For one, I’m not sure if he’s still at QB or if he’s at a different position. His latest tape (from freshman season) mostly showcased Samson’s ability to be an open-field playmaker. Yes, he had some good throws, but I was mainly impressed with what he was able to do outside of the pocket.
Grow a few inches and become a better passer- Samson could be in line to one day be EK’s QB1. However, if Samson is the same height, it’s probably best (from a recruiting standpoint) to make a position switch. I could easily see Samson make strides as a DB, WR, or even RB.

Samson is extremely raw as a Quarterback, but as an athlete, he’s amazing. He doesn’t have a ton of throws on tape, but his few throws still show some promise. Samson is an amazing open-field player, and he gets a lot of his work done scrambling outside of the pocket and taking off. Once he becomes a runner past the line of scrimmage, he has good speed, and elusiveness. If he wants to be East Kentwood’s starting varsity QB, he’s going to have to vastly overhaul his throwing ability.

Samson is a raw prospect, and there are some good QBs in the East Kentwood system in the classes ahead of him. Though seriously, I love his upside. Some of his highlights show phenomenal dual-threat ability as he’s able to dodge defenders in the open field like a great running back. His athletesism is elite for a freshman. His throwing mechanics need to be cleaned up, but if he can improve his throwing abilities, he could be a great prospect.

Smeenge was the top young quarterback at the PRZ MI Stock Up Showcase. The freshman out of East Kentwood showed the moment wasn’t too big for him. He competed well with the older guys in the group, going above and beyond during individual drills and 1-on-1’s. Smeenge completed several nice passes during his reps, including a few deep balls that showed off his accuracy. As Smeenge continues to grow and developing, this freshman is someone to keep an eye on over the next 3 seasons.
