Our class of 2027 rankings featured a nice influx of talent at the EDGE position. In this article we'll be breaking down this talented group, breaking them into tiers and talking about what makes each one special at their respective schools.

P4 COMMITS

Starting off, we have our P4 commits that are already decided on their next steps. Muskegon's [player_tooltip player_id='1264786' first='Recarder' last='Kitchen'] (Michigan) and [player_tooltip player_id='1684275' first='Myles' last='Smith'] (Indiana) are quite a big different, but share one major thing-they create absolute chaos. Kitchen is a long and lanky end that plays with good technique and leverage, and does a great job of being sound in his technique. Smith on the other hand, is built more stocky and is extremely well built. He comes with a full bag of tools and knows when to throw each move in his arsenal. Both will be immediate impact players at the next level.

FBS PROJECTIONS

We have a number of EDGE guys that haven't committed yet, and either have D1 offers, or absolutely should. First, Saline's [player_tooltip player_id='510691' first='Dawoud' last='Issa'] is an absolute game wrecker that should not be overlooked. Speed, power, athleticism and bend. Issa absolutely demands more attention than your average rusher. Groves end [player_tooltip player_id='1667539' first='Malik' last='Cipullo'] demands that same kind of attention. Kent State re-offered recently, and I suspect there could be some more opportunities sooner rather than later. Grand Rapids South Christian EDGE [player_tooltip player_id='2085548' first='Gavin' last='Bouma'] is big, physical and absolutely packs a punch. He hasn't gotten quite the same traction as the guys above at the FBS level, but I still genuinely believe there is a spot for him at the D1 level. If not now, I do believe it will only be a matter of time before he could be a hot commodity in the portal after a prove-it year.

MICHIGAN TECH

Michigan Tech gets its own tier in this article, thanks to 2 really impressive early commitments. Dewitt's [player_tooltip player_id='2263423' first='Landen' last='Braska'] just announced his pledge to the Huskies, and is a huge get. I love his motor and grinder mentality, which should fit right in up there at Tech. Zealand East's [player_tooltip player_id='2263341' first='Zeek' last='Ramadhani'] is a solid 6'2 230, and continuing to build. Another grinder mentality that gets in the backfield consistently and can be a force in the run game as well.

JACKSON LUMEN CHRISTI

There are still plenty of guys on this list that absolutely have the skill and upside to be playmakers at the next level. 2 of them come from the same school. Jackson Lumen Chrisi EDGE [player_tooltip player_id='1105023' first='Cash' last='Cooper'] has done nothing but work and grind, and has seen some offers come his way. Teammate [player_tooltip player_id='2224231' first='Jett' last='Esterline'] put himself firmly on my radar as well this offseason, and possesses great tools both physically and mentally. Both will be major pieces of this JLC defense en route to another state title defense later this fall.

INTERESTING/HIGH UPSIDE

There have been a few newcomers that caught my eye this offseason. South Christian's [player_tooltip player_id='2224251' first='Jacob' last='Lobbezoo'] has put himself on my radar with some impressive film, and he is projecting to be a very intriguing prospect. [player_tooltip player_id='1551460' first='Ian' last='Filipp'] from Berkley and [player_tooltip player_id='1572728' first='Dwight' last='Bowden'] from Mt. Clemens have some great flashes on film, but I would still need to see some in person work before I gave a final answer on my projection for them at the next level. A guy I am quite familiar with on this board is Gaylord DE [player_tooltip player_id='1052386' first='Leland' last='Korona']. He is a grinder that loves the offseason work, and put together a solid 2025 with plenty of examples of him being a disrupter in the backfield. Allegan's [player_tooltip player_id='1581318' first='Bradyn' last='Kosiorowski'] has tremendous upside at the position with excellent bend and some polished moves. No reason he won't get opportunities to play at the next level.
