Expert Analysis

Leland has continued to hone his skill, especially as a pure pass rusher, and it is paying dividends. I think his upside comes from the way he has specialized and really worked on his skill on the edge. He has great bend, great use of hands and has continued to evolve physically. Whether it’s with speed or power, Leland makes tackles work for every second of the rep. His motor is there and ability to swipe and get free is far beyond most defensive linemen in the class. His hard work is paying off and I truly believe Korona will have a phenomenal senior season.

Leland has been a great performer to start this season, helping Gaylord stay unbeaten through 5 weeks! He plays with a relentless motor, and clear football IQ, consistently demonstrating how to set up offensive linemen and just how to win his rep. What stands out on tape so far is his great use of hands, along with an elite change of direction. He doesn’t tip off his next move, keeping offensive linemen lunging and guessing. He lulls them to sleep before exploding with a burst and uses a violent chop along the way to finish getting by. He has been working hard over the last couple of years of becoming a true pass rush specialist, and it appears that hard work is paying off, allowing him to develop into a disruptive and high energy EDGE.

Expecting a standout junior season from Leland. A handful of good highlights, but has missed some time over the past two seasons due to injury. I like Leland’s getoff and he has some bend.
Generally, Leland still needs to add some bulk and add some explosiveness. I see the potential, and trust Gaylord’s coaching staff to develop defensive linemen. Hopefully we’ll see that standout season that I expect.

- A few solid moments of physicality
- Usually a solid getoff
- Still has a lot of room to grow; will re-evaluate once Leland puts up more tape
- I’d love to watch Leland perform sometime in the coming year! Sky is the limit on the usually incredible Gaylord defense

This is a kid I have talked about before, but I am seeing some big jumps in his game that I am super excited about. He has a quick step, long arms to keep blockers at bay, and a move or two in the bag to wiggle free to make a play. I think the jump to varsity will require him continuing his work in the weight room, and I would like to see him continue to develop his overall football IQ, and this could be a really nice piece for a stingy Gaylord defense. Time will tell what his ceiling is, but I am definitely high on his potential heading into the season!
