Malik was the Camp MVP of the defensive line. He was far and away the best defensive lineman on the day. He projects to a stand-up linebacker or wide 9 defensive end. He had the most extensive bag of pass rush tools, but everything works off of his get-off and speed rush. His ability to get off and win the edge was a really tough matchup. He had nice spin and dip counters to win inside if the offensive tackle overset. If Malik can continue to add good weight and get stronger, he’ll add another dimension to his game and up his ability to set the edge in the run game versus bigger stronger offensive tackles.

By all accounts, Malik has had a great season. My counterpart Alex just wrote about him and his solid performance against Cousino in the district finals. What he said is exactly what I see on film. The ability to not get engaged for too long, and the ability to get into the backfield and cause havoc is absolutely there. Great fire off speed, great bend and motor allows him to be a menace to opposing offensive linemen. His services will definitely be needed this week against a Lakeview team that has put together an impressive run in the back half of this season. Cipullo will need to bring his A game and impact this one as much as possible.

A surprise to absolutely nobody, Malik had an outstanding game.
Repeating myself a bit here, but Malik is as explosive and bendy as they come. Against the vast majority of OTs, Malik is able to bend and rip through, offering elite High School upside in pass rush. Several QB pressures for Malik, and if I’m not mistaken, a few sacks. Additionally, Malik showed great motor in the run game.
Malik reminds me a fair amount of Kade Frisen from Rockford. Really nice bend, great motor, but an inch or two too short for most D1s to take real notice.

Malik is an extremely impressive defensive end from Groves.
I am afraid he’s an inch or two too short for a lot of schools, but he still has the skill to one day play phenomenal college ball. Malik’s getoff and bend are eye-popping. There were a few instances this offseason where Malik made D1-offered offensive linemen look silly. Simply too fast for some highly-touted dudes. I can’t wait to see what Malik can do this season! Hoping for awesome pass rush highlights, plus physical & smart run stops.

Another shoutout to Malik, who now has DE highlights.
His highlight tape is solid. 0:29 shows a nice swim move on his way to a QB hit. Then, 0:37 shows another nice move, this time a push-pull, leading to a sack. His tape more or less shows what he showed in person. Good athleticism, highly efficient pass rushing, and an overall high-ceiling high school defensive end.
Though, his play speed is a tad lacking compared to his recent camp performance. I would love to see a bit better physicality when it comes to stopping the run, as well as that same speed + bend that I saw in person.

- Impressed greatly with bend
- High motor player. Hands and feet do not stop
- Active hands. Has a nice club + rip, and can dip and bend under blocks
- Height will likely limit college upside at DE. Highest upside position may be linebacker.
- Intriguing Junior season incoming. Has the tools to perform very well.
- Will be included in next rankings update

- Effort shined in positional drills
- Very impressive bend. Rare.
- Would have liked to see Malik get more reps during 1on1s
- Fast getoff + amazing bend = super high upside
- Does not have a go-to pass rush move. Still pretty raw.
- Should lean into speed and develop one or two great moves. Malik has rare bend and great speed.
- Size could limit opportunity. Was 6’1″-6-2″. A few more inches, and he’d be more attractive to D1s
