It's June, which is close enough to the season to start preseason content, at least in my mind. We're bringing back one of my favorite series from last season, but this time it's a bit earlier in the summer. Here, we're looking at several conferences to predict one player per team as their team MVP. Let's look at the Central Piedmont 7A/8A Conference.

Editor's Note: Since we started these much later in the offseason, we rolled these into conference previews. We'll preview conferences in the future, but here, we're just focusing on team MVPs.

East Forsyth Eagles

[player_tooltip player_id='1393949' first='Zion' last='Dobson'] | DB

How far can a team with talent at every position, but few superstars, go in the 7A class? The Eagles have 13 ranked players, including three defensive backs, two linebackers, and two defensive linemen. Dobson is the most highly rated of the bunch, a true Power Four corner prospect. He'll lead an elite secondary through a gauntlet of a schedule. The Eagles had a point differential of nearly +200 last year, but only went 7-5. I think this year, some of those close losses will turn into wins.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2171872' first='Chosen' last='Hyman'] (DL), [player_tooltip player_id='2126976' first='Sam' last='Phillips'] (DB), Julien Gerald (LB)

Parkland Mustangs

[player_tooltip player_id='2126984' first='Marsaun' last='Byrd-McCoy'] | QB

Parkland has struggled for the last few years, but may have a budding star in its 2029 quarterback. We're a long way from declaring him a long-term star in the program, as he hasn't yet secured the starting position, but we've seen him a few times, and he's one of the most physically gifted passers in the state.

Others Considered: Kayden Wright (LB)

RJ Reynolds Demons

[player_tooltip player_id='2171825' first='Tim' last='Martin'] | Edge

Reynolds had an excellent non-conference season last year before running into a buzzsaw in the conference, but the Demons seem to be building. As a team, they're bigger and stronger this year and return some key pieces. Martin led the team with five sacks in eight games, and he looks sharp this offseason. He could develop into a premier pass-rusher, which would give the defense an element to combat some of the physical teams in the conference.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2166195' first='Ziaer' last='Bennett'] (RB/LB), [player_tooltip player_id='2126991' first='De'reon' last='Watson'] (LB)

Reagan Raiders

[player_tooltip player_id='1616114' first='John' last='Evans Jr.'] | RB

There may not be another player as important to his team's game-planning and overall success as Evans. The rising junior was a workhorse last year who averaged nearly 25 touches a game. His steady presence, explosive ability, and ball security allowed his defense to play bend-don't-break defense while the offense controlled the tempo and game flow. I expect the Raiders to try to get just a little more out of the passing game because the defense and running game are enough to make them contenders

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='1617737' first='King' last='Kalama'] (Edge), [player_tooltip player_id='668586' first='Antonio' last='Kelly Jr.'] (DB/WR)

Northwest Guilford Vikings

[player_tooltip player_id='1395227' first='Rakem' last='Hammock'] | WR

The Vikings were better than their record indicated last year, but struggled to find consistency on both sides of the ball. They lose their quarterback to transfer, but return several key playmakers on the outside, including the talented Hammock. He has speed, route-running, and ball skills, and if the Vikings have some consistency at the quarterback position, he'll have a huge year.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2127017' first='Easton' last='Dean'] (RB)

West Forsyth Titans

[player_tooltip player_id='1671114' first='Braylen' last='Marrow'] | WR/DB

Take your pick from West Forsyth's deep and talented receiving corps. The Titans add a few young, intriguing transfers that could be x-factors this year, and that could go a long way towards determining the team's ceiling. Last year, Marrow led the team in receiving and picked off four passes as a defensive back. He may see an increase in rushing this year, as well, as the Titans lose their workhorse back. The offense is unique and balanced, and I like this team's upside.
