About King
Expert Analysis

This time last year, Kalama was a little-known edge rusher with strong potential, but Duke offered in the spring, and he eventually committed in December. That hasn’t stopped him from blowing up on the recruiting trail with several FBS offers in 2026. He’s longer than his height suggests, allowing him to get around the edge, and he’s one of the better run defenders at the position statewide.

We thought we were high on Kalama before the bigger offers started to come, and when they did, we had to go back and consult the tape. He’s grown tremendously as a pass-rusher in the past year. At times, he was unblockable and even had a huge game in Reagan’s playoff loss against Grimsley and its impressive offensive line.

King has really worked hard in his first two years of high school football, and he has started to see that pay off with his first two offers from Duke and Boston College, respectively. With a 3.6 GPA, any more offers that come in for King, he’ll be able to easily qualify academically. We have King rated as an EDGE prospect, but at his size, he can slide inside and play some defensive tackle as well. King gets off the ball very well at either position, but his speed really shows coming off the edge as both a pass rusher and a run defender. King sows some elite hand usage to shed and disengage from blockers, and he’s very quick with those hands – he has been coached well. I expect King to really explode from a recruiting perspective, especially if he grows a couple more inches taller.

King jumped on a lot of radars this spring, where he picked up offers from Duke and Boston College, his first two offers overall. King has a desire to be the best he can be as a player, and you can see that reflected in his highlight film. King has a strong burst at the line of scrimmage and ties that with strong hand usage in a variety of pass rush moves to get to the quarterback. King also shows good power and knockback in the run game, and shows good fundamentals to disengage from blocks and get in on tackles consistently. A 3.5 GPA paired with this film means more offers are going to be coming sooner rather than later for King!

Kalama is a powerfully-built edge rusher whose pass rush plan intrigues me. Despite being a bit on the shorter side for an edge rusher, Kalama rarely lets offensive tackles get to his chest. Instead, he’s the one who initiates contact and moves blockers. Unlike many high school defensive linemen, he often has multiple pass-rushing moves in one rep. That’s evident at the :49 mark of his film. First, he extends to put distance between himself and the right tackle, then rips through to force an errant throw.
