Across the board, this Gainesville front seven can get after it, and Simmons is a major catalyst. He is built stouter and more filled out than you would expect given his size. He is built to play with his hand in the dirt as a 4T. Explosive player off the line who makes firm contact with blockers. Is an urgent player who works hard with his hands to get himself free. Pursues well, doesn’t get washed easily, and always looks to be a step ahead of blockers. Simmons is a clean, D1 projectable DE prospect.

Simmons made his full-time varsity debut as a sophomore, and he did not disappoint. He racked up eight tackles for loss and four sacks as an undersized 3-technique. He’s able to make that work because of his strength and length. If he gets into the body of an offensive lineman, he’s shown consistent ability to control the line of scrimmage and throw more than a few of them around with his massive strength.

Simmons is another athletic interior defender who went from an extremely limited role as a freshman to an impact lineman as a sophomore. He’s 240, but has the strength of a much bigger player, and his film has plenty of plays of him tossing offensive linemen aside. He played on the interior in four-man fronts, but bounced outside in 3-4 looks. His quickness makes him a high-upside pass-rusher with the strength to be an every down player against the run.
