It was shocking that Grimes didn’t score a touchdown last season, given his athletic profile and target share, but that should change in 2026, likely quite quickly. He has a rare blend of size, speed, and route-running ability, and the combination gives him the profile of a potential breakout candidate. That means he’s capable of putting up huge numbers on a deep receiving corps at West Forsyth.

One of the great mysteries of this football season is how Grimes doesn’t yet have a touchdown. He’s a massive target and excels after the catch, rarely losing speed or acceleration through the catch. He has great hands, often snatching the ball out of the air with his hands, rarely needing his body to complete plays.

This talented 2028 receiver we are very high on as we have him in our Top 25 for the 2028 Class Rankings. Tylan is already showing some elite catch radius receptions in 7 on 7 competition this off-season, and he picked up his first offer from Liberty in late January. This is a name we will get used to talking about in the state of North Carolina over the next couple of years for sure.

After a modest on-field output as a freshman at Southwest Guilford, Grimes transferred to West Forsyth and his excellent spring is the reason for his inclusion as a new receiver. Not only did he make our rankings, he flew up near the top. He has size, speed, and route-running ability, something he’s displayed at both college and exposure camps.
