Byrd-McCoy immediately turns heads because of his size and arm talent when he earned some playing time last year. At the Carolinas Coaches Combine in April, I was told he looked the part. He just needs more live reps as he refines his footwork and processing. As his footwork becomes more consistent, so too should his accuracy. Right now, he’s so young that we’re excited about his potential. He could be the top recruit to come out of Parkland in a number of years.

Byrd-McCoy is another younger guy who isn’t even penciled in as the starter, but could have a big year if he wins the job. He’s a high-upside, potentially elite prospect on a team that has some budding young talent. Obviously, his size stands out, as the 6-6 passer has the frame to add lots of good weight. He can generate a lot of velocity, and if he develops well, he’s a name to know not just in the area but in our state rankings.

Parkland’s future prospects are tied closely to how the absurdly talented Byrd-McCoy develops. He earned some varsity playing time down the stretch and flashed elite potential. He has an accurate deep ball and excels at throwing his receivers open, often throwing it behind or low to help his guys avoid big hits.
