It's June, which is close enough to the season to start preseason content, at least in my mind. We're bringing back one of my favorite series from last season, but this time it's a bit earlier in the summer. Here, we're looking at several conferences to predict one player per team as their team MVP. Let's look at the CAP 8A Conference

Editor's Note: Since we started these much later in the offseason, we rolled these into conference previews. We'll preview conferences in the future, but here, we're just focusing on team MVPs.

The CAP 8A Conference has some of the best top-end talent in the state, and every team has at least one player we consider a true college prospect; it might be the only conference we can say that for. Here, we'll look at each team's most important player.

Athens Drive

[player_tooltip player_id='1717124' first='Cam'Ron' last='Young'] | DB/RB

Athens Drive struggled last year in a brutal conference, but the Jaguars return a lot of their production. Young was a two-way starter, making an impact at both running back and defensive back. His volume dropped as the season progressed, and this year, we expect him to improve week to week.

Others Considered: James Cochran (LB)

Broughton Capitals

[player_tooltip player_id='1272624' first='Luke' last='Pagan'] | RB

A Green Level transfer, Pagan brings a tough, but patient running style to an offense that needed another consistent playmaker. Pagan joins a team that was a handful of 50-50 plays away from a winning season last year, and there's some talent on both sides of the ball. Look for the Capitals to get off to a hot start in the nonconference before a difficult conference stretch.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='1606887' first='Darias' last='Johnson'] (Edge)

Corinth Holders Pirates

[player_tooltip player_id='2143606' first='Blake' last='Beckwith'] | RB

Beckwith was pound-for-pound one of the best running backs in the 8A class last season, racking up around 90 yards per game against a brutal schedule. The rising senior back is one of the only key returners at the skill positions for the Pirates, so he'll be relied upon heavily in 2026.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2226585' first='Tanner' last='Day'] (Saf.), [player_tooltip player_id='2100550' first='Lamont' last='Hunt Jr'] (DL)

Enloe Eagles

[player_tooltip player_id='1680041' first='Ziyeir' last='Leach'] | RB/DB

Enloe should have a balanced offensive attack, but I think they'll lean heavily into the running game when push comes to shove. The offensive line is excellent, and given the firepower of several conference opponents, I think the Eagles will try to control the tempo. Leach was excellent in limited carries last year, and he's a receiving threat, too.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='1646740' first='Leo' last='Gorga'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1129854' first='Jaiden' last='Creath'] (LB)

Leesville Road Pride

[player_tooltip player_id='1093057' first='Jayden' last='Lee Perry'] | WR

The Pride lose two key offensive playmakers to transfer and their top receiver to graduation. Perry's return really helps their offensive outlook. An electric athlete, Perry is the top returning receiver, and he excelled as a kick returner last season. If the Pride want to repeat last year's elite offensive output, Perry will need to be a huge part of the scoring.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='1549526' first='Evan' last='Brown'] (DB), [player_tooltip player_id='2184175' first='Wyatt' last='Gardner'] (Edge)

Millbrook Wildcats

[player_tooltip player_id='1553113' first='Rashad' last='Streets'] | Edge

Last year's state runners-up lose a lot at the skill positions, so the defense will look to carry the Wildcats. Streets is the top-ranked edge rusher in the state, and he lives in the backfield. He's flanked by an elite front seven and a promising secondary. We know the defense will be stout; it's only a matter of how productive the offense can be.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='651173' first='Quinton' last='Cypher'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='485965' first='Bryson' last='Gray'] (QB)

Rolesville Rams

[player_tooltip player_id='378957' first='Amir' last='Brown'] | RB

Last year, Rolesville's downfall was its surprising difficulty in creating explosive plays on offense. A couple of intriguing transfer receivers could play a role in fixing that, but Brown is still the guy who makes it all go. The defense has to replace a few talented Power Four recruits, but I don't think they'll actually have much trouble replacing their high school production. Expect the defense to be stout, and even if the Rams are more explosive, they'll want to ride Brown where they can.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='991736' first='Asaiah' last='Brown'] (CB), Jaylen Broadie (Edge), [player_tooltip player_id='2104503' first='Le'Eric' last='Cooper'] (WR)

Wakefield Wolverines

Greyson Clopton | TE/LB

The two biggest questions I have for Wakefield are whether the Wolverines can find a quarterback who allows Clopton to move to receiver or tight end, and whether they can run the ball. Last year, both were struggles. If the Wolverines can move Clopton to his most natural positions, though, the offense should be much better. He's a true Division I prospect, and a guy we really like on a team that has some talent.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2111637' first='Landon' last='Brogdon'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='2146719' first='James' last='Williams'] (DB)
