TAAC Six 5A/6A Preview: Southeast Guilford

Southeast Guilford had an up-and-down season in 2025, finishing 6-5 before dropping three of its final four games, including a first-round playoff loss. Despite the disappointing finish, the Falcons showed flashes of being a dangerous team throughout the year and return a veteran core that should have them trending in the right direction.   With many of their top prospects entering their senior seasons, Southeast Guilford is primed to take a significant step forward. Experience, leadership, and overall talent should make this one of the most improved teams in the conference. If the Falcons can stay healthy and build consistency throughout the season, they have the potential to make a deep playoff run and emerge as one of the top contenders in the region.    [player_tooltip player_id='2168308' first='Brian' last='Bellerand'] is the top returning offensive lineman for Southeast Guilford and will anchor the Falcons' front this season. While he projects as a guard at the next level, his versatility allows him to line up anywhere along the offensive line. Bellerand is a powerful blocker with excellent quickness for his size, showing the ability to pull in space and finish blocks at the second level. His strength, mobility, and physical style of play make him one of the top returning linemen in the conference and a key piece of Southeast Guilford's hopes for a deep playoff run.     Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='2241081' first='Travis' last='Motley'] is the featured running back for Southeast Guilford after finishing just shy of 1,000 rushing yards and four touchdowns last season. A true first-down merchant, Motley consistently moves the chains with his vision, balance, and physical running style. With an increased workload expected this fall, he has all the tools to surpass the 1,000-yard mark and reach double-digit touchdowns, giving the Falcons one of the more dependable backs in the conference.     [player_tooltip player_id='2241082' first='Joshua' last='Penn'] is one of Southeast Guilford's top two-way playmakers and will be a key contributor on both sides of the ball as a rising senior. A natural athlete with outstanding instincts, Penn has a knack for finding the football whether he's on offense or defense. He recorded an interception last season, showcasing his ball-hawking ability, and his versatility allows him to impact the game in multiple ways. Expect Penn to be one of the Falcons' biggest difference-makers throughout the season.     Rising junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2241084' first='Phoenix' last='Fleming'] enters the season looking to take a big step forward after an up-and-down sophomore campaign. While the numbers weren't where he wanted them to be—throwing just three touchdown passes last season—Fleming gained valuable experience that should pay dividends this fall. With a full offseason to develop and a veteran group of playmakers around him, expect him to be more confident, more efficient, and significantly improve his production. If Fleming takes the leap, Southeast Guilford's offense has the potential to be one of the conference's most improved units. The rising senior found the end zone twice last season, but his biggest jump should come with an increased role in the offense. Bates has the tools to make plays at all three levels of the field, and with more targets coming his way, he is poised for a breakout campaign. Rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='2241094' first='Terrance' last='Norwood'] returns as the leader of the Southeast Guilford defense and the Falcons' top linebacker. Norwood finished last season with 50 total tackles and two sacks, consistently making plays all over the field. A true sideline-to-sideline defender, he has the speed to chase down ball carriers, the physicality to stop the run, and the athleticism to hold his own in pass coverage. His versatility and leadership make him one of the top returning linebackers in the conference and a key piece of Southeast Guilford's playoff aspirations.
