Among the 400+ athletes to come out to UW- Oshkosh for the Lake Show Mega Camp were some special defensive players. In particular, defensive skill position players. The LB and DB position groups both gave us some freaky athletes who were flying around the field, making play and putting up big numbers during the combine. After collecting all my notes we have a long list of athletes that deserve their time in the spotlight. So let's take a look into the performances of 12 defensive skill players who caught and held my attention during the Lake Show Mega Camp.

One of the best overall performances of the day belongs to the safety/LB/ATH out of De Pere, [player_tooltip player_id='1733885' first='Liam' last='Fieber']. The 5'11" 197 lbs athlete dominated every portion of the day. He started things off with a 4.50 40, 4.25 shuttle, 9'9" broad jump, 7.03 L-Drill, and a 38.8" vertical. Elite numbers across the board.

The 1 on 1 battles were a great look at Liam too because he is coming off an All Conference season as an OLB for the Redbirds. So getting to see him more in space running with WRs was great to see. It was impressive how natural Liam was in coverage. Quick backpedal, explosive transitions and changes of direction, a closing burst to be able to jump routes and break up passes. The '27 DB also proved to have the physicality to be able to play with TEs too. It was a day that showed off Liam's complete game and it ended with him earning an offer from Winona State.

One of my favorite pure CBs from the day is Amarii Ward of Ronald Reagan. The 5'11" 165 lbs '27 ran a 4.44 40, 4.64 shuttle, and jumped 9'2" and 34.5" in the vertical. Those strong numbers were just scratching the surface of what he went on to show during 1 on 1s. Amarii has the quick feet and hips needed to be able to backpedal and turn and run with WRs. The reactive athleticism during the route also shined as he was able to stay close through route breaks. Even if he got caught out of position Ward could flash a closing burst to break up passes. The '27 CB is no stranger to ball production either in coverage. In 2025 alone he had 4 INTs (3 TDs) and 3 PBUs. I wasn't the only one taking notice either as he would earn an offer from Winona State at the end of camp.

We stay on the same high school team, and family for our next CB standout. [player_tooltip player_id='2164360' first='Amir' last='Ward'] of Milwaukee Reagan also crushed the day. Amir is someone I had been keeping an eye on after he finished 2025 with 4 INTs and an insane 13 PBUs while only allowing 1 catch all season. The 5'11" 170 lbs CB started the day hot with a 4.53 40, 4.67 shuttle, and jumped 32.3" in the vert and 9'3" in the broad. The long, lean CB was a fun watch during 1 on 1s too. He was aggressive at the line, physical throughout the route, and did really well of reading and reacting to route breaks. This is a kid that can stay out at CB at the next level because of that reactive athleticism and the ball skills he possesses. It was also clear to see that he had the confidence and mentality needed to play out on an island.

The Waukesha West 2027 S put together one of the best combine numbers of the entire event. It started off with a great check in at 6'1" 182 lbs and looking the part of a next level safety. Then he hit the field and blew me away. Chase was able to post a 4.53 40, 4.36 shuttle, 10'2" broad jump, 38.4" vertical, and a 7.56 L-Drill. Seeing numbers like this really rounds out an impressive prospect in Chase because his highlight reel shows more of his physical play style. So knowing he can dominate roam over the top or play against the run has me confident that the Waukesha West product can work towards becoming a three level safety at the next level. Chase is looking like a big time hidden gem/steal in the Class of 2027.

Zadari is putting together a really strong camp season. On Sunday the rising 2028 CB posted a 4.67 40, 4.41 shuttle, 8'8" broad jump, 32.7" vertical, and a great 6.86 L-Drill. All really good numbers to be at for a kid who is only going to be a junior this fall. What matters most is that Zadari was very successful in 1 on 1s with WRs. That is where Zadari was able to show off his speed, quick feet, and closing burst. That burst in particular helped him to under cut routes and recover to get PBUs. It is also worth noting that the '28 CB was aggressive at the line and made WRs earn releases and getting into their routes. Racine Case never is at a lack of skill position talent, and it looks like Zadari will carry that tradition on.

Germantown 2028 DB [player_tooltip player_id='1671753' first='Bennett' last='Coulter'] had an eye-opening start to the day at the Lake Show Mega Camp on Sunday. He ran a 4.57 40, 4.19 shuttle, 9'2" broad jump, 37.7" vertical, and a lightning quick 6.67 L-Drill. Most of these numbers were among the very best of the day among the 400+ athletes in attendance. On the field you see those testing numbers shine. Bennett is so twitchy while playing out on an island vs a WR. His feet and hips give him the ability to stay glued to the hip of his WR and he has the timing and ball skills to be able to perfectly time and contest the catch to breakup passes. The '28 DB is coming off All Conference HM honors in 2025. Big things ahead for the incoming junior.

Finn has started camp season off on the right foot. He was an MVP of the Winona State camp and then went on to the Lake Show Mega Camp and again caught my eyes while competing with 400+ athletes. The 2027 was registered as an LB and fits the mold of a LB/S hybrid, checking in at 5'9" 180 lbs. The explosive athlete tested outstandingly well; especially among the LBs. He ran a 4.59 40, 4.69 shuttle, jumped 9'3" and 34.6", and ran a great 7.15 L-Drill. The standout performer plays without fear too. He flies around at 100 mph setting the edge on Friday nights and getting into the backfield. This camp season we have seen him round out his abilities with success playing in space and covering LBs. Finn is an interesting chess piece that a DC could work into his system.

Lukas is another athlete who has grabbed my attention at multiple camps this spring/summer. First was at the PRZ WI Showcase, and now at the Lake Show Mega Camp. The 6'1" 220 lbs 2029 LB definitely stands out from the crowd with the frame he is building. A frame that thrives against the run game, built to shed tackles and put RBs down as soon as he wraps them up. But Lukas is also coming out and showing that he is working towards bringing his athleticism up to par with the physicality of his game. The closer those two parts get to equal, the more of a three down LB Lukas becomes. As a kid who just finished his freshman year, and already that size, he is carrying himself and moving well. Over these next few years he is only going to develop his quick twitch muscles further. Big things ahead for the current LB1 in the Class of 2029.

Elias is on a trajectory that is pushing him towards being one of the top LB prospects, and he will be right there battling for that spot by this time next year. The 6'1" 200 lbs '28 LB is so athletically gifted for the position. He ran a 4.42 40 at the Lake Show on Sunday, 4.49 shuttle, 7.09 L-Drill, jumped 36.5" in the vertical, and 9'7" in the broad jump. It is impressive watching this kid run, change direction, and accelerate within the tackle box and out in space. Elias brings that three down ability to the field too. He is someone who has the athleticism to play in coverage over the middle, yet he has the physicality to shed blocks and will also use his outstanding athletic tools to shoot through gaps to disrupt the backfield. This kid is on a steady rise on the Prep Redzone boards, and I'm sure he is on many others as well.

The 2027 LB out of Iowa made the trip up to Oshkosh, and made it well worth while. Roan surely looks the part at 6'1" 220 lbs. More importantly he plays the part by being equal parts athletic and physically dominant. The Iowa native ran a 4.66 40, jumped a 9'6" broad jump, and ran a 6.91 L-Drill. Roan is able to use that explosive athleticism and turn it into power at the point of contact, whether that be redirecting RBs in coverage or shedding blocks. The '27 out of Iowa is looking like a future steal with his size, explosive agility, and physicality. Don't miss out.

One of my favorite under the radar LBs delivered a strong showing at the Lake Show Mega Camp. Braden checked in at 5'10" 203 lbs, ran a 4.81 40, 4.78 shuttle, jumped 9'1" twice in the broad, and jumped 32.2" in the vertical. Numbers that match how he plays on film. An LB who can roam sideline to sideline and has some effective burst to capitalize on blitzing through gaps. Those tools also pair with the physicality of a typical LB. Someone who is going to fight through traffic and do the dirty work in short yardage to make the tough stops. That culminated in a 95 tackles, 8 sack, 15 TFL season for the 2027 LB. He currently holds an offer from the camp host team, UW- Oshkosh.

Another favorite LB of ours is Lourdes Academy's [player_tooltip player_id='1226971' first='Brady' last='Bauer']. Brady plays with what I would label athletic violence. He flies around the field at 100 mph and does it with force and power in every movement. Power that allows him to fight off or through blocks and deliver big hits on ball carriers. We saw flashes of that during drills at the Lake Show Mega Camp. We also saw him put together a strong showing in the combine portion of the event with a 4.78 40, 4.53 shuttle, 9'1" broad jump, 7.59 L-Drill, and a 33.7" vertical. All at 6' 212 lbs on the day of the event. Brady is coming off a great season where he also plays QB for Lourdes Academy and had the Knights on the doorstep of a State appearance. I'm expecting big things from him and the rest of his team this fall.
