With bodies flying around and a heavy run attack throughout the weekend it's difficult to tell how many tackles [player_tooltip player_id='1689175' first='Hakim' last='Stephens'] had, but he had a noticeable presence. The powerful Defensive Tackle was tough a tough assignment, often times eating up double teams and freeing up his LBs behind him. Pearson lined up at both Edge and inside at Defensive Tackle during the tournament, depending on situations. His speed off the snap was second to none on the field this past weekend. Played with a high motor and made a number of big plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. He played in the 8th Grade BOTR tournament, but he reclassed from 2030 to 2031 and will be back next season.

Region 4

On a Region 4 team that was highlighted by a tremendous Offensive Line and a gaggle of tough Running Backs that grabbed their hard hats and lunch pails, [player_tooltip player_id='1688860' first='Carter' last='Snyder'] was a standout on the other side of the ball for the boys in blue. The massive Defensive Tackle bullied his way through the overmatched Region 3 Offensive Line on Saturday and caused pressure. On Sunday, he lined up at Nose when Region 4 went to a 3-4 and I was impressed with how quickly he moved laterally to control both A Gaps. An 8th grader of his size, moving laterally as well as he did, was impressive.

Region 2

In addition to [player_tooltip player_id='1689175' first='Hakim' last='Stephens'], The BOTR 8th Grade champs also got a solid performance out of Defensive Tackle, [player_tooltip player_id='1689156' first='Ethan' last='Sparks']. Last year Sparks had a nice showing in the BOTR tournament, but was noticeably more impactful this year. Fired off the snap hard but played under control. Did a good job of feeling out when blocks were coming from down the line. Sparks routinely maintained gap integrity and made several nice plays.

Linebacker

Region 1

Sporting two of the coldest names in prep football, [player_tooltip player_id='1664004' first='Titan' last='Henderson'] is the younger brother of 2029 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1663813' first='Rage' last='Henderson']; Little brother had himself quite the weekend. The stereotypical Middle Linebacker played down hill and was around the ball all weekend long, even scooping up a fumble. As the chatter in the press box agreed, he has a chance to contribute early in high school -- even if it's just Special Teams. He has a nose for the ball and thrives on contact.

Region 3

In my opinion, the best Linebacker I saw this weekend was LCA's [player_tooltip player_id='2160970' first='Brady' last='Whelan']. A late add to the Region 3 roster, he was a tackling machine throughout the weekend. At 6-foot and 205 pounds, he showed the size and ability to play any of the three LB positions, but primarily lined up as an OLB. In Region 3's consolation game loss to Region 1, Whelan was a bright spot on defense. By my count he was in on over 10 tackles, despite the lopsided loss. The younger brother of All-State 2028 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='951327' first='Nash' last='Whelan'], Brady played in the BOTR 8th Grade tournament but will be reclassing to the 2031.

Region 1

At first look [player_tooltip player_id='2160054' first='Cayden' last='Ward'] is built more like a Running Back -- the offensive position he plays, rather than a Linebacker. However, the Glasgow prospect used a similar skillset to have quite the weekend as an OLB. Using the vision of a RB to slash through and around blockers, he was a very active this weekend. Ward had a number of tackles in the boundary, showing off his speed to the ball. He also (unofficially) tallied a pair of sacks on the weekend.

Region 2

To my knowledge, this my first time seeing Burns play in a live setting the KCD prospect did not disappoint. The fact that I initially thought he was lined up as an Edge rusher tells the story of his weekend. The Outside Linebacker played an attacking style of 'Backer and crashed down hard to make a number of tackles near the line of scrimmage. He played with keen ability to keep outside leverage and made a number of boundary tackles.

Region 2

Out of all the Inside Linebackers I saw on the 8th Grade level of the BOTR tournament, [player_tooltip player_id='1669201' first='Brandon' last='Abren Jr.'] was an unquestioned stand out to me. The thick MLB looks significantly bigger than he did last year and played with the strength that comes with the increased size. Built like a wood shed in the middle of the defense, he made teams pay for trying to run up the middle. In the championship game on Sunday, he had half a dozen tackles and caused a fumble with a big hit.

Region 4

In that BOTR championship game, the MLB opposite Region 2's [player_tooltip player_id='1669201' first='Brandon' last='Abren Jr.'], was Region 4's [player_tooltip player_id='1649948' first='Micah' last='House']. House was noticeably more muscular and in significantly better shape than he was last year at this tournament. He looked like a natural coming down hill and controlling the tackle box. Region 2 had three of the top 2030 RBs in Kentucky running interchangeably, causing House and the Region 4 defense to stay busy. He made a number of solid tackles and big hits that I could hear form the press box.

Defensive Back

Region 1

Reigning KYMSFA Region 1, Division 3 Player of the Year, Tyren Anderon, absolutely catapulted up my list of 2030 prospects in Kentucky with his showing at the 2026 BOTR tournament. He caught my eye immediately during warmups because of his long frame and then watching just his first few plays cemented it for me. His biggest play of the weekend came on 40-yard (give or take) scoop and score for a touchdown during the consolation game victory over Region 1.

Region 4

Ensuring that Region 4 was represented by all three levels of defense on All-Tournament team, I liked the play of [player_tooltip player_id='2154382' first='Trevin' last='Durham']. Durham used his long legs to cover a lot of ground from the Safety position. In the championship game against Region 2 -- a game that Region 4 ultimately lost -- Durham did a nice job of coming down in run support. The Region 2 RBs were extremely impressive and Durham did his best to neutralize their running attack in the box. He was much more physical then I anticipated.

Region 2

After watching a ton of football this weekend and digesting everything I saw, it's clear to me that Region 2 had the most athletic 8th grade team in the BOTR tournament. On the defensive side of the ball, Cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1690633' first='King' last='Brown'] checked the athleticism box for me. He looks to have stretched out a significant amount since I saw him last year, making it even easier for him to blanket Wide Receivers. Brown showed me a lot of guts in the championship game. After having to be helped to the sidelines after a physical tackle in the first quarter, he returned to make a number of nice plays in coverage and against the run.
