1st Quarter

A beautiful tournament helped kickoff the New York Football season in Albany. The first game off a triple header kicked off at 11 AM with the wind and cloud over head. With rain in the area both teams were ready to get the game started. CBA-Albany received the ball first. The Monsignor Farrell defense quickly forced a punt and got the ball in their own territory. After getting inside the Redzone, Farrell handed the ball off to [player_tooltip player_id='805722' first='Kevin' last='Gumb Jr'], who scored on a tough run with multiple broken tackles. The Brothers got the ball back and faced the wrath of the Monsignor Farrell defense, who quickly forced an interception. After bring the ball inside the Redzone on the return, [player_tooltip player_id='1283757' first='Bryce' last='Moye'] kept it himself to give the Lions a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter. CBA-Albany, got the offense rolling, where [player_tooltip player_id='1648702' first='Thomas' last='Toher'], broke off a long touchdown run just over a minute later. Monsignor Farrell answered back fast, with a second Kevin Gumb score to put the Lions up 21-6. The Lions got the ball back again after forcing a punt, and once again scored, ending the First Quarter, 28-6.

2nd Quarter

Following the first Quarter, Monsignor and the Lions were rolling, a huge lead on one of the top teams in their state on their own turf was massive for Monsignor Farrell. The Brothers defense stepped up big time in the Second Quarter. Back and forth, both teams went in an attempt to add points to the board. Late in the first half, CBA-Albany started driving the ball, with under a minute left they had one timeout and the ball inside the Redzone. With the clock running, The Brothers chose to run a play instead of kicking a field goal. Monsignor Farrell stopped the CBA-Albany offense short of the goal line, which fired up Monsignor Farrell and Coach Rocco Del Priore, who had his team amped off running off the field.

3rd Quarter

Following a much needed break with an action packed first half, both teams rushed back onto the field, to bleachers filled with fans and cheering parents and students. Monsignor Farrell, started with the ball and had their drive stall out after a few minutes forcing a punt. The game started to look up for CBA-Albany, as they steadily drove the ball down the field , with a mix of run and pass plays. With around seven minutes left in the third quarter, The Brothers drove the ball into the Redzone, and capped off their best drive of the afternoon with a three yard touchdown run from [player_tooltip player_id='1648702' first='Thomas' last='Toher'], marking his second score of the night. CBA-Albany went for two, which failed, making the score 28-12. Monsignor Farrell, got the ball back and answered quickly with a steady drive moving the ball down the field and capping it off with a score, making it 35-12.
4th Quarter

The rain took over most the fourth quarter, with defense and challenges gaining yards becoming the story. Both teams failed to score throughout the fourth quarter, with Monsignor Farrell knowing they had won a huge matchup with just a few minutes remaining. Media and other members on the field took cover through most the quarter, due to the heavy rain and limited action. This unfortunately left me with little to no coverage of the final part of this outstanding opening game. I found out later from members who stayed on the field, that both teams traded punts and three and outs the rest of the game, with Monsignor Farrell making a statement in Albany, and winning handily by a score of 35-12.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260032' first='Archie' last='Jones']: Jones had a disappointing weekend to start the year. The Brothers have yet to enter stats for this game.
