On the surface, it looks like the 2024 regular season has been quiet on Minnesota's recruiting front. With P4 offers only going out to the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='945348' first='Theo' last='Thomas'], [player_tooltip player_id='1522278' first='Jayden' last='Moore'], and [player_tooltip player_id='592222' first='Ethan' last='Beckman'], PrepRedzoneMN has been wracking our brain and watching as much film as possible trying to find the next Minnesotan to earn a D1 and/or P4 offer. Despite the fact that the 2026 class is firmly in the spotlight fo Division 1 college programs, Minnesota's 2027 class has been making some major waves on the recruiting trail, thrusting some current sophomores directly into the crosshairs of D1 coaches and recruiters. Whether it's their on-field play, recruiting attention and visits, or a combination of both, these standout Minnesota 2027s are doing a great job of boosting their stock during the 2024 season. Check out the biggest, baddest, and best of Minnesota's 2024 Regular Season Stock Risers below, this time in our ultra-talented Sophomore Edition. Hop on the bandwagon now while there's room!

An electric combination of a breakout star and stock riser, Moorhead's explosive sophomore WR [player_tooltip player_id='1629849' first='David' last='Mack'] has been one of the state's top performers in 2024, regardless of age or position, blasting himself into contention for an early P4 offer and solidifying himself as one of the best sophomore WR prospects I've seen in my time with PrepRedzoneMN. Mack's production has been nearly fantastic as a sophomore, posting 58 catches for 829 yards and 18 TDs through nine games, combining with his QB [player_tooltip player_id='1194605' first='[player_tooltip player_id='1194604' first='Jett' last='']' last='Feeney'] to produce the top pass-catching duo in Minnesota and stamping himself at or near the top of the state's leaderboards in all receiving categories all season long. The likes of Minnesota, Northwestern, and Wisconsin have all taken notice, following the young man on Twitter, and the film really jumps off the screen and looks the part of a P4 receiver, especially with two+ years left of high school ball left. Mack, who is also a Top 50 basketball player in the state according to PrepHoops, runs with the esteemed Howard Pulley EYBL AAU squad, and reports a 4.03 pro-agility, which seems to be backed up on tape in Mack's eye-catching twitch. Here's what PrepRedzoneMN had to say about Mack's game and talent in a detailed writeup from earlier this month.

"Mack shows impressive releases at the LOS, quick hips, smooth breaks, and suddenness at the top of the route, as well as strong hands that can reel in receptions away from his body. Mack owns elite balance and twitch, which, when combined with great vision and burst, is dangerous and effective in space, and he displays real-deal YAC ability and can make defenders miss and look silly with consistent ease. His top-end speed can take the top off the defense anytime he goes vertical, and he accelerates out of his breaks and can start/stop with noticeable effectiveness. Plus, he cuts his routes off well and doesn't round things out, and can climb the ladder and win 50/50 balls through contact and tight coverage." As we also mentioned in that previous feature, Mack is - off the top of my head - the most impressive sophomore WR I've seen in Minnesota in my half of decade+ working with PrepRedzoneMN. What a season and what a talent we have on our hands! What's in the water up in Moorhead?

An extremely promising 2027 prospect who has been lighting up the 6A ranks and shooting his recruiting stock into the stratosphere this season, Wayzata's 6'4, 230 lb. DE [player_tooltip player_id='1368410' first='Eli' last='Diane'] had some serious momentum building even prior to the 2024 season kicking off. This summer, Diane showed some real-deal size/athleticism combo at the Wisconsin Badgers prospect camp, measuring in at 6'3.5" and 227 pounds and clocking a 1.78 flying 10, 4.85 short-shuttle, and 9'3" & 9'4" broad jump that certainly turned some heads in the Badgers recruiting department. Things were starting to build even prior to that, as Diane popped off a a 50'02 and 50-6.5 shot put as a freshman, a very impressive benchmark to hit at such a young age and really highlighting his power and overall athleticism. Some heavy hitters already follow Diane on Twitter, including four members of Iowa's staff, namely their WR GA, DL coach, Director of Recruiting, and GM/Chief of Staff. Ohio's Director of Recruiting and Iowa State's Director of Player Personnel also follow Diane, as well as Boston College's official football fan account. Diane earned an in-season gameday invite from the Hawkeyes, which he attended last weekend, and in his inaugural season on the 6A heavyweight Wayzata, Diane posted 15+ tackles, 5 TFLs, and 3 sacks against MN Big School competition. Talk about a future star on the recruiting trail!

The film is good and checks some big-time boxes, especially for a sophomore. Diane can play either 3T or 5T, shows some length in his arms and a good frame that can continue to add weight, and he looks flexible in his three-point stance and fires off the well with pace and good pad level. The 230 lber. shows some twitch, a good initial punch that can eat and work through down blocks, pulls, and doubles, and he looks fluid when he opens up and chases down ball carriers from the backside of the LOS or at the second level of the field. Diane is also patient when reading a developing play and can handle read-option assignments, cuts tight off blockers backsides and shows good technique when reading and processing offenses. Plus, he's turnover-minded and shows some good awareness to scoop and attempt to score a live fumble against Shakopee. Looks like there's P4 football in this young man's future.

We recently broke down Shakopee's stud 2027 safety [player_tooltip player_id='212480' first='Blake' last='Betton'] midseason tape for a Film Room special on PrepRedzoneMN, and got to see the sophomore live and in-person against the Minnetonka Skippers, and he's been more than impressive both on the field and on tape. Against the Skippers, with more than 8,000 fans watching on, Betton was a fantastic tackler who could come downhill and stonewall powerful ball carriers once he made contact with some thump, and was more than athletic enough to corral and handle ball carriers in space 1v1. He owns a long, lean frame that looks like a legit 6'3+, and he shows a ton of room to fill in as he continues to grow. Plus, he's got a strong basketball background, and is the son of Shako's head coach Ray Betton, a nice box to check given how coaches kids usually have a high IQ, not to mention the fact that Betton plays safety, where you need to be able to read and process quickly. We know he's been getting a lot of attention so far this fall, but Betton HAS to be included in this feature, as he's one of only a few MN 2027s to earn a P4 gameday invite this fall and one of even fewer to earn a gameday invite from the Gophers. Betton checked out Dinkytown last weekend in the gophers win over Maryland and also visited Wisconsin in early October.

Here's what we noted about Betton's midseason film: "The sophomore brings tons of pop and a physical edge to the Shakopee defense, especially as a third-level defender and one who has to make a lot of high-pressure 1on1 tackles. He owns long arms, height, and athleticism, and creates a huge catch radius that can pick off and break up passes at a variety of angles. Especially effective in 50/50 highball situations. In run defense, Betton sifts through traffic and finds the ball with pace, takes good angles to the football, accelerates into contact, sticks ball carriers, and doesn't allow extra gains once he makes contact. Even as a sophomore, Betton is a hulking high school safety, and depending on how he continues to grow, I could see a move to linebacker in his future, especially given how physical and run-defense-heavy his tape and skillset is." I see many more visits in this young man's future and he is currently on a shortlist of MN 2027s looking and playing like future P4 prospects as sophomores.

Another piece of Shakopee's talent-rich 2027 class of prospects, 6'2, 215 lb. EDGE [player_tooltip player_id='1288283' first='Andrew' last='McGee'] had some very promising non-varsity tape as a freshman and has a good build that is going to keep growing and adding strength in the coming years of varsity ball and offseason work. I got to see McGee in-person against Minnetonka in a big-time 6A showdown earlier this month, and he passed the eye test for a sophomore, did a good job of playing with physicality and setting the edge, and could beat blocks and make plays behind the LOS against an excellent Minnetonka front. P4s are taking notice, as the Gophers and Badgers both sent McGee gameday invites that he attended in October. A great first step in a young bucks developing recruitment, McGee is controlled, productive, and strong in his sophomore film, presenting himself as a standup EDGE who attacks blockers with good leverage and pop, sets the edge with physicality, and can shed blocks and make tackles through contact around the LOS. He displays good burst out of his stance and can get upfield and close with pace, which helps him produce some exciting sacks for big losses, and I saw him shake and rattle some iOL and fullbacks when he puts the pads on them, knocking their head backward and visibly rattling their cage. McGee demonstrates good play speed and pursuit speed and can run down QBs out to the edge and from the backside of the LOS, can flip his hips and pursue and chase down ball carriers out to the sideline, and is a strong tackler in space and 1v1 settings. Should be a fun offseason for the sophomore Saber, this kid can play.

I'm sure a lot of our readers would agree with me, but I'm once again excited to see how another class of Minnesota linemen develop and pan out. The 2027 class in the Land of 10,000 Lakes still have a lot of time left in their careers, but with the accelerated timelines that is D1 recruiting nowadays, it's never too early to start digging around for some talent. PRzMN had Benilde-St. Margaret's massive OT on our inaugural rankings drop, holding down a spot in the WL due to a lack of film, but he has really burst onto the scene in 2024 as a sophomore. I heard from a couple of opposing coaches about the Red Knights massive sophomore LT, and the film is very promising and is already checking some big-time boxes. Yarborough is a massive and physical presence who can outright dominate opponents, both at the LOS and out in space. The 335ish lber. is heavy handed, strong like a bull, and aggressive, and can bully and overpower defenders around the LOS. He knows how to use his size to his advantage and can easily box out and out-maneuver defenders by using good angles and awareness, looks to finish and put more than his fair share of defenders on their backsides in 2024, and thunderous hitter when he gets a clean shot on an opponent or when he locks out and extends his arms. Yarborough also looks balanced and controlled in space and when changing direction. The 6'5, 335 lber. can lead block for his RBs effectively against first, second, and third level defenders and can breakdown, adjust, and accelerate like a player 50 pounds lighter. I am overall really impressed by the clips of Yarborough getting out into space. He even plays some DT and showed some closing speed, lateral agility, and production against the run. I'm already bullish on Yarborough's future and think he's got future D1 OL written all over him. Still under-the-radar, Yarborough's only D1 coaching follow is Alabama's assistant OL coach Kirk Barron. Can't wait to get this kid on the rankings!

The Heimer boys can ball, and the Byron Bears continue their stretch of high-level prospects into the 2026 and 2027 class. Representing the sophomore is RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='1288402' first='Jordan' last='Heimer'], who is a big reason why Byron is 8-1 and going into the Class 4A, Section 1 Championship on Friday against Kasson-Mantorville. Heimer has recorded 12 TDs so far this year, and uses his long legs and good speed to help him float by defenders like they're stuck in the mud. He can beat defenses out to the edge, but will also run behind his pads and can get you tough yardage when he lowers his shoulders and throws out a truck stick or two. I also like his contact balance, and he shows some quickness when breaking tackle attempts too. Defensively, Heimer's a rangy, speedy LB who shoots gaps with pace and can disrupt run plays behind the LOS. He uses his hands to shed blocks and is a strong tackler who created some impressive collisions against RBs in 2024. Eastern Michigan has already noticed Heimer and has a coach following him on Twitter. Can't wait to get this kid on the rankings!

A 2027 MN stock riser who started to build his momentum during the summer camp circuit, Mankato West's [player_tooltip player_id='1306596' first='Hudson' last='Clarksean'] is looking like a shoe-in to continue the Scarlets trend of big-time prospects over the past few recruiting cycles. A well-built 6'1, 200 lber. who tested well for his age at various stops on the summer camp tour, Clarksean was a starter on varsity for the Scarlets and kept the recruiting momentum going into the season as he visited the Wisconsin Badgers on a gameday visit in early September. The combination of versatility and physicality immediately jumps out on tape. In the first couple minutes of Clarksean's tape, the sophomore lines up at TE, FB, HB, and DL, and brings a physical and aggressive edge and play style that helps him dominate at the point of attack against older, experienced combination. The 200 lber. is a sticky run-blocking TE who is hard to disengage from and can finish blocks with physicality. Great hand placement, runs his feet well, and is motivated and strong enough to handle defensive linemen as a sophomore, he wins a ton of 1v2 blocking assignments and stamps them with physicality and some big collisions in a variety of situations. He also shows some splash play ability as a ball carrier with good burst but can also get you tough yardage. He's able to slip and run through tackle attempts with his strong lower body and will drop his pads and run with authority. As a DL, he shows a good first step and can beat iOL with his quickness. We'll see how his size and positional projection to the college level continue to develop, but right now, Clarksean looks like the top name-to-know out of the traditional 5A powerhouse.

Man, oh man, do we have a fun RB coming out of Hermantown's 2027 class. 5'11, 160 lber. [player_tooltip player_id='1292281' first='Martin' last='Sleen'] has been one of the most productive tailbacks in Minnesota this fall, finishing his 8 game regular season with 103 carries for 1,096 yards (10.4 YPC) and 17 TDs while spearheading Hermantown to a 7-1 record. This kid is real-deal explosive and real-deal athletic. This past offseason, at the TrainingHaus Combine down in Eagan, Sleen put up some crazy testing numbers. Led by a 4.64 40, Sleen posted a 4.28 shuttle and 7.0 L-drill, along with an eye-popping 42" vert for good measure. If that's a laser 40, that's D1-worthy athleticism, especially for a sophomore, and you can see the numbers translate to the tape as well.

The speed shows up all throughout his tape. Sleen slides by pursuers like they're stuck in the mud and displays legit game-breaking speed that can take it to the house on any play. He's a fluid runner who shows great burst and a top gear that he can shift into at the third level to outrun pursuers and finish big runs. Sleen can also can cut on a dime and cut at top speed, and demonstrates great vision, as he uses every inch of the field to his advantage and does a good job of setting up defenders before bouncing the rock outside, where he's lethal once he gets the sideline. Once he sticks his cleat in the turf and gets vertical and he can get up to top speed quickly, and one cut and he's gone. Sleen also owns great balance, thanks to a strong lower body and good contact balance that helps him run through weaker tackle attempts without losing steam. The Hermantown product earned a gameday invite from UND this season but is still very much under the radar. We may have our next great Outstate athlete on our hands!

Yes, there's another Schiltz coming out of Pine Island! The younger brother of 2025 NDSU LB commit [player_tooltip player_id='641136' first='Blake' last='Schiltz'], 2027 DE/TE Cody is already measuring in at 6'2, 215 lbs. and is a three-sport athlete who also competes in basketball and baseball for the Panthers and holds a 4.0 GPA. With the D1 bloodlines of his brother, Schiltz is already on the radar of D1 coaches, and NDSU's WR coach Steve Crutchley follows Schiltz on Twitter. The midseason tape shows a DE with a good get-off who accelerates out of his stance with noticeable get-up, some pass rushing capability, and good play speed on both sides of the ball for 6'2, 215. Schiltz does a good job of sniffing out the ball and closing with pace to make splash TFLs and sacks behind the LOS, displays big pop when he attacks blockers and can set the edge with force and physicality, and is a good tackler to boot. As a TE, Schiltz can make tough catches through contact and contests, shows some shake at the top of the route and some solid speed as a route runner, and is a physical blocker who can handle DEs 1v1 and with force and dominate against second-level opponents. The speed/size combination, as well as production against varsity opponents as a sophomore, has me feeling good about his future as a college football prospect. Can't wait to see what the full season tape looks like.

Can't help but get excited when you see an underclassman starting for the Eden Prairie Eagles. 6'1/6'2, 215 lb. OG/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1453214' first='Jack' last='Badon'] has come on strong towards the midseason point of the regular season and started getting significant reps on the OL for the Eagles, showing off an impressive effectiveness as a puller and a real comfortability at blocking in space. The OG is a quick, effective puller and has good strength and balance to take defenders out of the play, and uses good footwork and balance help him mirror, breakdown, and adjust to second and third level defenders in space impressively. Badon displays good pop that can knock DL on their butts on down blocks or drive them far downfield, good leg drive after contact, and can combo and change direction well for an iOL. Not your biggest iOL yet, but shows a solid frame, and you know you have to be strong, athletic, assignment-sound, and consistent in your technique if you want to get on the field for EP. Easy choice for a name to know in the 2027 class. Great job this year, Jack.

Representing the 612 and my alma mater Minneapolis Southwest, 6'4, 165 lber. [player_tooltip player_id='1538019' first='Owen' last='Boarman'] has been dynamic & productive in 2024 as a sophomore and has gotten better and better as the season went on. Boarman posted 18 receptions for 344 yards and 4 TDs, as well as 25 tackles and 4 INTs defensively, and is a promising two-way contributor with an absurd frame, a big-time, impressive catch radius, and a ton of good football left in front of him. Boarman possesses noticeable and significant length, can take the top off the defense and beat CBs vertically as a wideout, and shows smooth COD ability as a route runner and can create separation at the top of the route and out of his breaks. He owns soft hands, tracks the deep ball well, and has a big-time catch radius that can reel in all kinds of throws, misthrows, and back-shoulder passes. Boarman can climb the ladder and win 50/50 balls on top of the heads of awaiting DBs and is instinctive and reactive when the ball is in the air. Defensively, as a safety, the 165 lber. shows solid range in pass defense as a safety and can defend the sideline and MOF and pick off passes in both man and zone coverage, and does a good job of running the alley and can pursue to the sideline in run defense. Good tackler in 1v1 settings and in space, and displays solid hips and eye discipline. The size, growth potential, playmaking ability, versatility, and athleticism make me excited for this young Lakers' future.

A 5A defensive lineman finding a ton of success in the trenches as an underclassman, Waconia's 6'2, 275 lber. [player_tooltip player_id='1452200' first='Nehemiah' last='Ombati'] has been quite productive as a sophomore, posting 49 total tackles, 2 TFLs, and 2 sacks against high-quality opponents from the likes of Mankato West, Chanhassen, Chaska, St. Thomas Academy, and Bemidji. Also a good wrestler for the Wildcats, Ombati is showing some serious strength, body control, and production as an underclassman in the trenches of Minnesota's second-largest classification of competition.

A NG/DT who lines up as a true 0, 3T, and 5T, Ombati shows off twitch, can go speed to power and has an effective bull rush that put some blockers on skates in 2024, and some great hand usage. He owns a strong punch and can hold OL at bay while he finds and identifies the ball carrier, and can shock and shed when he locks out and extends his arms. I love how easily he sheds blocks and produces against a ton of attention from guards, centers, and fullbacks, and the 275 lber. displays great balance, body control, and production as a defender right smack dab in the middle of Waconia's defensive line. He's also an aggressive tackler who put a couple suplexes and slams onto ball carriers in run defense and goes all-out into contact. I also like Ombati's get-off and burst out of his stance, and he possesses a good motor and has reps of him cleaning up loose ball carriers out in space at the second and third levels of the field. The body control, production against 5A offensive lines, combination of twitch and power, and now, the tape, have me bullish on Ombati's future as a college prospect. Need to verify his size, and would love to get some athletic numbers, but boy are there some boxes checked right now. Still very much under the radar with no college coaches following him on Twitter, this is your first look at what could eventually become a very full bandwagon.

St. Louis Park is in the midst of a solid season in the 5A ranks, and the Orioles have a stock rising 2027 leading their offense in 6'4, 220 lb. QB/WR [player_tooltip player_id='1540406' first='Everett' last='Arnold']. I got to see Arnold this past spring at a 612Qs event, and he was as massive as advertised with three years remaining in the SLP S&C program. According to MNFootballHub, Arnold has gone 98-199 for 1,127 yards and 8 TDs to 14 INTs and also added 84 rushes for 316 yards and 3 TDs on the ground. With a big-time frame and college-ready size, Arnold has limited film uploaded, but from what I was able to gather, the SLP sophomore displays a big arm that can stretch the field vertically, put good touch on the rock, and get the ball to his receivers hands with velocity and fit the ball into tight windows at the prep level, There's some really intriguing things going on with his legs as well, as Arnold took a read-option keep 77 yards to the house against Apple Valley, showing off some exciting top-end speed at 6'4, 220+ and displays a mean, effective stiff-arm and will run with physicality. Not sure if he projects to QB best right now, as his size, athleticism, and mobility are especially intriguing, but he has a lot of prep football left and playing QB in high school is rarely a bad thing. Good to see SLP getting on the recruiting map!

We recently broke down Pruett's midseason tape for a Film Room special on PrepRedzoneMN a couple of weeks ago, so this evaluation will be fairly similar, as we don't have a significant amount more tape to work with since we last checked out his Hudl profile in depth. Princeton's highly-ranked 2027 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1288296' first='Carson' last='Pruett'] has made the transition down to DL in 2024 as a sophomore, measuring in at 6'1, 220 lb. and showing off some fantastic production against 4A opponents despite being an underclassman in his first year of varsity action. Pruett has totaled 39 total tackles (26 solo), 12 TFLs, 7 sacks, 4 FFs, and 1 INT in nine games of 2024 action, and those 7 sacks really get me fired up, as does the tape.

Here's what we liked and highlighted from Pruett's midseason film a couple of weeks ago: "wins a ton of reps at the first step thanks to his impressive and very noticeable get-off, which thrusts him into the backfield before anyone is ready, where Pruett can make 1v1 tackles behind the LOS and when given the chance to make a play. Besides that great get-off that shoots into the backfield with pace, Pruett bounces off blocking attempts like a bowling ball, attacks them with proper leverage, and occasionally knocks the blocker on their own butt thanks to his strength. He displays some twitch, good speed as a pass rusher that can also go speed to power, and a great rip that helps him force his way into the backfield through contact and with an OL hanging all over him. The speed he brings to the position, as well as the production, has me bullish on the young man's future, but a lot of how high he projects depends on how big he'll get, especially at defensive line."

Some DIIIs and NAIA coaches have taken notice on Twitter, but Pruett is still flying under the radar despite raising his stock on-field as a sophomore. Princeton has a big showdown with #1 Becker tonight in some sectional championship action.

A 2027 RB who got on my radar after watching Monticello take on Spring Lake Park earlier this regular season, 6', 200 lb. [player_tooltip player_id='1633387' first='Cale' last='Holthaus'] is also a standout baseball player for the Magic who has now separated himself as a prospect in both sports as a young buck. Holthaus is a well-built, muscular sophomore who was the lynchpin in Monti's win over the Panthers, and after the game I had this to say about the young sophomore tailback: "Sophomore RB Holthaus was the sparkplug that got Monticello back into the ball game in the second half. I was impressed by his lower body strength, balance, and physicality during the ball game, but came away even more excited after I found out he was a sophomore. Strong, filled out, thick upper and lower body, ran hard and kept his legs pumping through contact, good vision and burst, and was a physical North-South kid who beat SLP's defense down in the second half. He had a couple of particular reps that stood out. On a 5-6 yard run, Holthaus carried SLP's DII commit for a couple extra yards, and that kid was 235 lbs., and Holthaus also had a devasting hit as a lead-blocker opening holes for his fellow RBs, sending SLP's captain flying onto his butt. Lot of good football left for this kid!"

The sophomore doesn't have any updated tape from this season, which I'm hoping changes soon, but after seeing him in person, I really like how he fits into the varsity scene as a running back, as well as his physical tools, multi-sport background, and running style. Great job by this young man of breaking into the varsity and 2027 recruiting soon so assertively this fall!

You gotta love a winner, especially at the QB position, and nothing can quite propel a football team to victory like a talented quarterback. At 6'2, 185 lbs., Holy Family Catholic's talented signal-caller Ethan Ryan is having a heckuva stock rising season in 2024 and is checking some of my favorite boxes in a quarterback prospect, especially this young. Namely, his TD to INT ratio and winning record. Ryan - who has Holy Family sitting at 7-2 going into tonight's Class AAA, Section 4 championship against Minneapolis North - has completed 68 passes on 123 attempts (55%) for 1,222 yards and 14 TDs to 2 INTs, and is a lefty gunslinger with good touch on his downfield passes who can throw with accuracy and velocity to the middle of the field. Ryan will stand in the pocket and deliver throws through big, oncoming contact, throws a good ball on the run, and has some scrambling ability and can break tackles and maneuver around traffic in and outside of the pocket. Good name to know in the still-developing 2027 MN QB race. Great job this season, Ethan!
