In a game that is defined more and more by speed and taking advantage of spacing, we don't see as often the bruising RBs that power their way through contact and drag defenders for extra yardage on a consistent basis. The RBs on this list are ones who do utilize their size and power well to fit that mold and utilize brute force to steadily chip away at opposing defenses. We take a look at 5 bruising runners from MN to watch out for in 2026!

A towering prospect for the Gobblers, [player_tooltip player_id='1629905' first='Parker' last='Fulton'] has been a spectacular two-way threat at RB and MLB. Leading their potent run-game, Fulton finished with 1058 rushing yards (7.6 YPC) and 19 TDs on the ground last season. While MLB has proven to be Fulton's preferred position, Fulton has been spectacular on the run, translating his big-hit power on defense well on offense. Trying to slow down Fulton is like trying to stop a train, knocking defenders back trying to take him head-on, and also maintaining his balance slipping out of the hands of defenders trying to tackle toward his hips and his legs. Fulton is a premium prospect built by raw strength, and he's been a warrior on both sides of the ball so far for the Gobblers.

For an offense that has averaged over 190 rushing yards per game and had at least 7 rushers with at least 25+ carries last season, it makes [player_tooltip player_id='1120527' first='Colton' last='Johnson']'s performance for the Tigers that much more remarkable. Johnson finished with a team-high 581 rushing yards (6.8 YPC) and 7 rushing TDs. Not just proving to be a powerful runner through contact, but also boasting an impressive level of speed, noting his 4.6 40 yard dash time, that combination could prove lethal at the next level. With a tall frame and broad shoulders, Johnson has proven to be an excellent short-distance and goal-line runner who consistently is driving forward and has the speed to race outside the perimeter and beat the defense to the pylon. Johnson should remain to be the primary bell-cow for the Tigers' loaded run-game in 2026.

While the Lumberjacks' offense remained potent with over 290 yards rushing per game in 2025, it's intriguing to think how much more dominant they could've been if [player_tooltip player_id='1009970' first='Logan' last='Phonethep'] had been in the lineup all year after suffering a season-ending leg injury during the first game of the season. Prior to his injury, he had ran for 136 yards (6.2 YPC) and 3 rushing TDs in his lone appearance against Elk River. Phonethep proved to be dangerous up the middle, getting a strong forward push and wasn't afraid to face contact, boasting plenty of speed and strength at the point of contact to barrel his way forward, making him dangerous in the redzone. Hopefully, with a full season of this level of play in 2026, Phonethep may convince scouts that he will be a real problem at the next level.

Maybe not getting enough respect on his name already enough considering that we're missing the "F" in his last name, but Tyler Kraft has been a real difference maker at the Fullback position, who's overall impact on the game has faded over the last few years. Playing in a loaded backfield, Kraft ran for 300 yards (4.3 YPC) and 4 TDs last season. Possessing a strong lower frame and a relentless playing-style capable of knocking his opponent's helmet off upon contact, Kraft shows himself to be a great short-distance runner who's consistently able to drive himself forward for extra yardage while also driving defenders back with his runs and his blocks, also proving to be able to clear running lanes outside the perimeter and double as a short checkdown option in the passing game. A premier Fullback all-around, Kraft remains to be the Tigers' secret weapon for success as they look to make another deep push in the playoffs in 2026.

[player_tooltip player_id='1581363' first='Jack' last='Horvat'] was on a strong pace for success prior to his injury following the first 4 games of the 2025 season. Horvat had 282 rushing yards (5.6 YPC) and 3 TDs prior to his injury, which would ultimately finish 3rd on the team in rushing yards by the end of the full year. A relentless runner who refuses to go down on first contact, Horvat was quite slippery and on multiple occasions, it took multiple defenders to drag him to the ground. His two touchdown runs against Hermantown both are clear examples of pure effort and playing to his strengths that showcase his thrilling potential at the next level. It will be exciting to see what Horvat will do with a full season's worth of reps and carries in his senior campaign.
