The first of two Shakopee Sabers to earn a selection as one of Minnesota’s Hardest Hitters, 6’3, 215 lb. colossal off-ball ‘backer Andrew McGee has been quite the popular name on the recruiting trail this offseason. With offers from Northern Iowa, Central Michigan, South Dakota, NDSU (in November), and North Dakota already under his belt, it’s no surprise the ILB qualifies as one of the state’s biggest bone crunchers. The recently-named Shakopee captain for 2026 tallied 80 tackles (second on Shako), 4 TFLs, 2 sacks, and 2 INTs as a junior, and he’s fresh off an All-Conference Honorable Mention nod in hoops for Shakopee in 2025-26.
The ILB can square up RBs and dominate at the gain line, and he completely envelops RBs and QBs at the contact points before squashing them into the turf in front of their horrified fans and loved ones. A physical, crushing blitzer, both for opposing OL and ball carriers alike, McGee does most of his work around the box, but is a true off-ball inside ‘backer and has some serious juice in coverage as well. The 215 lber. can find paydirt when dropping into the hook/curl and undercutting slants and quick game around the second level of the field, and he displayed an excellent, eye-catching, one-handed snag on a poorly-thrown screen attempt to show off some highlight-play-worthy hands. Plus, the 215 lber. closes with impressive pace and smoothly tracks, flows, scrapes, and pursues the football around the box. This upcoming Summer Camp SZN will be a big test as to whether McGee can break into that upper echelon of P4 linebackers, so stay tuned with PRZMN for news and updates, both on the site as well as on Twitter.

had some very promising non-varsity tape as a freshman and has a good build that is going to keep growing and adding strength in the coming years of varsity ball and offseason work. I got to see McGee in-person against Minnetonka in a big-time 6A showdown earlier this month, and he passed the eye test for a sophomore, did a good job of playing with physicality and setting the edge, and could beat blocks and make plays behind the LOS against an excellent Minnetonka front. P4s are taking notice, as the Gophers and Badgers both sent McGee gameday invites that he attended in October. A great first step in a young bucks developing recruitment, McGee is controlled, productive, and strong in his sophomore film, presenting himself as a standup EDGE who attacks blockers with good leverage and pop, sets the edge with physicality, and can shed blocks and make tackles through contact around the LOS. He displays good burst out of his stance and can get upfield and close with pace, which helps him produce some exciting sacks for big losses, and I saw him shake and rattle some iOL and fullbacks when he puts the pads on them, knocking their head backward and visibly rattling their cage. McGee demonstrates good play speed and pursuit speed and can run down QBs out to the edge and from the backside of the LOS, can flip his hips and pursue and chase down ball carriers out to the sideline, and is a strong tackler in space and 1v1 settings. Should be a fun offseason for the sophomore Saber, this kid can play.

is going to look in a couple of years, but we got an impressive glimpse into the 6’3, 215 lbers. future in 2023. Long, great frame, and already notable size for the position, McGee didn’t play much varsity as a freshman, but he did post a varsity carry for six yards and you can’t hold a lack of varsity reps as a freshman against a kid in they attend one of the better programs in the big school ranks and in the state overall. However, if he’s the dude we think he could be, he should be starting, or at least playing significant varsity reps as a sophomore.
Against non-varsity competition, McGee has a nice rep of him shooting off the LOS, adjusting his path to the TEs upfield shoulder, and stepping right into a passing lane for a pick-six on an attempted RB dump into the flats, as well as an awesome rep of him defending the edge, setting his feet, and sending an Eden Prairie lead blocker off his feet and into his RB for a pinball-like tackle, all while maintaining his balance and looking like he did little more than swat at a fly. McGee operated as a hybrid EDGE outside of the tackle on the LOS and occasionally as wide as a WIDE9 alignment, and depending on how he continues to grow, he may see his position designation switch to DL/EDGE in the coming years. The 215 lber. looks good changing direction in space, does a great job of attacking lead blockers while keeping his outside shoulder free, and uses good leverage as an edge defender for the Shakopee defense. McGee really thrives in the physical aspects of the game, and he likes to assert himself and brings a lot of pop into contact, both as a tackler and when taking on blocks. He closes with pace and uses good pursuit angles to his advantage, and made some impressive tackles in space last fall. Offensively, as a RB, McGee demonstrated breakaway speed as a RB against non-varsity defenders, and is quick and uses his long legs and standout contact balance to create some impressive TD runs as a RB. How sudden and dangerous he is with the ball in hand took me by surprise, and he also shows he can be an asset as a pass catcher.
