Good win here for Osseo, who needed two overtimes and a ton of heart-racing moments to finish on top of St. Michael-Albertville 36-35. STMA tied the ball game at 21 late in the 4th on a Ty Haring to Ben Derbis TD pass-and-catch, setting up what was one of the best overtimes we've seen so far this season. [player_tooltip player_id='469057' first='Iggie' last='Cooper'] scored his second of three rushing TDs in the opening series of OT, but STMA matched on another Haring pass, this time to Tanner Becker, to tie things back up at 28. The Knights then scored on the opening drive of OT2, but Osseo matched, as Cooper scored from a yard out, and then finished things emphatically with a successful 2-point conversion run to take the W back to Osseo. Fans of both teams must have been going nuts. Osseo now sits at 2-4 with Anoka next up this Thursday, and 3-3 STMA heads to Maple Grove to see the undefeated Crimson.

One of PrepRedzoneMN's games of the week heading into last Friday, Grand Rapids squeaked out a 29-28 victory over a talented and then 4-1 North Branch team, at home and in front of their adoring fans. Grand Rapids is one of the sneakier dark horses in Class 4A, with a talented 2026 stock-riser whose name is starting to circulate on the recruiting trail and plenty of experienced varsity talent. North Branch nearly averages 400 rushing yards a game and led by one of the most underrated senior athletes in the state in [player_tooltip player_id='1582863' first='Jacob' last='Robillard'], but were unable to outlast a frantic 4th quarter comeback by Grand Rapids. The Thunderhawks used an Oliver Spahn TD run to cut the lead to within 7, and then used a pick-six by Ethan Morgan, with a successful 2 pt conversion by Spahn, to walk off with the victory. Sounded like fireworks up north. 4-2 Grand Rapids takes on Cloquet this Friday, and North Branch is set to take on Duluth East.

Eden Prairie 21, Minnetonka 20

Another overtime thriller from last week, this one out of Class 6A and the Big School boys. Eden Prairie should never, ever be taken lightly, and they took down the then-undefeated 5-0 Minnetonka Skippers at Eden Prairie High School on Friday, needing an OT TD run by Jeremy Fredericks and a successful PAT (Minnetonka missed their own) to secure the win. [player_tooltip player_id='641134' first='Elijah' last='Rumph'] scored twice for the Eagles, and [player_tooltip player_id='1162022' first='Chase' last='Conrad'] posted 17 carries for 99 yards and 2 TDs for the Skippers. Maybe Minnetonka overlooked EP after a crazy win over Shakopee last week and a Maple Grove matchup on the horizon, maybe Eden Prairie finally put it all together and had a complete, 4-quarter ballgame, or maybe a combination of both, but the 6A race once again saw another wrench thrown into the mix and I am more confused than ever about a potential 6A power ranking going into playoffs. Tonka is looking to bounce back against Buffalo and Eden Prairie heads to Rochester to take on Mayo this Friday night.

Shakopee 42, Edina 12

Can't say I saw this one coming, and especially to this degree of a score difference. Shakopee reasserted themselves on the 6A scene in a big way, coming off a one-score loss to Minnetonka by absolutely thrashing the Edina Hornets at Shakopee High School. Looks like the Sabers came out swinging, posting 33 points and holding Edina to 0 through the first half of the ball game, a hole that Edina was unable to dig themselves out of. [player_tooltip player_id='1181590' first='Judah' last='Forsberg'] rushed 13 times for 231 yards and 2 TDs, and [player_tooltip player_id='1582837' first='TJ' last='Clark'] added 23 carries for 148 yards and a TD out of Shakopee's backfield, and [player_tooltip player_id='592125' first='Mason' last='West'] went 15-20 for 180 yards and 2 TDs in the loss. I think this says more about Shakopee than it does Edina, and by the looks of it, the Hornets were not prepared for the assignment-heavy challenge that is dealing with Shakopee's triple-option attack. I'd be curious to see what would happen if these two met again, but there's so much convolution in the 6A class that I'm done trying to guess what's going to happen. Good win by Shako!

I've been devouring the new and continually updated 4A class and its standings, and we had a heavyweight showdown go down in Plymouth, with now 6-0 Orono coming out on top over a big, physical, and experienced Providence Academy team. 7-6 in favor of Providence Academy at the half, but the Spartans came out swinging in the 3rd quarter, scoring 15 points that gave them a comfortable enough lead to withstand (and add a FG of their own) 6 points from Providence Academy in the fourth quarter. This was a gritty, tough ball game with its top performers coming on the defensive side of the ball, but [player_tooltip player_id='1120570' first='Parker' last='Burckhardt'] caught a TD and picked a pass off in the win. Lot of football left for these two teams in 2024.

One of the biggest rivalry games of the season, Mankato is a very talented city in 2024, and both East and West find themselves ranked in the 5A race nearing the end of the regular season. With the Cougars sitting at 5-1 going into the matchup, the ball game looks like it's going to be a tight one, as both teams are talented, senior-heavy, and have a lot on the line going into this game, bragging rights included. East is led by senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='1231847' first='Ganden' last='Gosch'], one of the most stock-rising QBs of the 2024 regular season, and he has a talented two-headed monster in the backfield behind him with Zachary Bosse and Logan Kleist both having good seasons. Brogan Madson and [player_tooltip player_id='551354' first='Hayden' last='Tischler'] are good wide receivers as well. West is one of the toughest 3-3 squads in the entire state, led by a UND commit at LB and nearly half a dozen scholarship commits on the 2024 roster. They'll need some good offensive output to come out with the W here but have been tested and come out on the short end of some tight ball games with good opponents. I think this is going to be a fun one.
