Week two has come and gone and there were plenty of standout performers in the second week of the WV high school football season. Here are 17 athletes that stood out during week two of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='907809' first='Malachi' last='Lewis'] - Oak Hill '24 ATH

Oak Hill ATH [player_tooltip player_id='907809' first='Malachi' last='Lewis'] makes his debut in our weekly standouts recognitions for his great night against a very good Independence team who lost their first game since the 2021 state championship. Lewis accounted for all four touchdowns in the Red Devils' upset victory over the Patriots. Lewis threw for 130 yards and four touchdown passes in the 27-26 victory. After battling through a tough week one performance and even seeing himself be benched in that game, Lewis bounced back in a big way for one of Oak Hill's biggest wins in quite some time.

[player_tooltip player_id='370283' first='Aydin' last='Fleming'] - Hedgesville '24 LB

Hedgesville senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='370283' first='Aydin' last='Fleming'] was a terror on defense for the Eagles in their 25-7 win over Keyser. Fleming had 11 tackles, 3 TFLs, and an impressive 3 sacks considering Keyser runs the Wing-T offense. From watching his film from the game, he was not blockable at times and got consistent penetration into the backfield. Fleming often lined up right on the line of scrimmage and the Keyser offensive linemen could not get their hands on him quickly enough to stop him. He flashed his speed and defensive playmaking ability all night which earned him a spot on our week two standouts.

[player_tooltip player_id='450997' first='Hunter' last='Giacomo'] - George Washington '25 DB/LB

George Washington junior linebacker/defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='450997' first='Hunter' last='Giacomo'] was all over the field for the Patriots in a tough 42-21 loss to Ashland Blazer (KY). Giacomo finished the game with an impressive 15 tackles and a pass breakup making his mark on defense. The hybrid LB/DB showcases his athleticism and versatility to be able to drop into coverage and also be stout in run defense. He played mostly outside linebacker and that position suits his size and athleticism well where he can crash the edge and run in space. Giacomo attacked the ball very well and it's no wonder why he was able to total 15 tackles in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='370298' first='Caleb' last='Nutter'] - Morgantown '24 FB/LB

Morgantown senior fullback/linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='370298' first='Caleb' last='Nutter'] put together a solid performance in a tough and physical win over Bridgeport. These two teams are mirror images of each other and both pride themselves on hard-nosed physical football which made for a great game. Nutter posted 12 tackles in the contest versus the single-wing Indians where he was vital at his middle linebacker position. He also had the game-sealing forced fumble late in the game which gave the Mohigans an impressive 22-14 road victory. This game was not for the faint of heart and Nutter showed why he's one of the toughest players in the state this game.

[player_tooltip player_id='866263' first='Curtis' last='Jones Jr'] - Cabell Midland '24 RB/LB

Cabell Midland's [player_tooltip player_id='866263' first='Curtis' last='Jones Jr'] will be a linebacker at the next level most likely but boy has he looked good running the football this year through two weeks. He had a great year last season running the ball too but Jones Jr looks smoother and faster this year. He had another great game in their 28-20 win over Spring Valley rushing for several touchdowns and ripping off some big runs. Jones Jr is not only big but he is fast and that combination is going to be nearly impossible to stop at this level. He looks more fluid and agile this season with the ball in his hands and I've been very impressed with the senior thus far.

[player_tooltip player_id='370255' first='Gage' last='Wright'] - Parkersburg South '24 RB/LB

Another week down and another incredible performance for Parkersburg South's [player_tooltip player_id='370255' first='Gage' last='Wright'] who is off to a unheard of start to the 2023 season. The Virginia Tech wrestling commit has scored five touchdowns in back-to-back weeks bringing his total to 10 through the first two weeks. However, he was able to play longer in this week's contest against a better opponent in University and Wright saw himself rush for 375 yards and 4 touchdowns while also adding a 28-yard receiving touchdown. Wright would have had a 5th rushing touchdown but handed the ball off to a teammate before crossing the goal line.

[player_tooltip player_id='370256' first='Turner' last='Garretson'] - Parkersburg South '24 QB/LB

The duo of [player_tooltip player_id='370256' first='Turner' last='Garretson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='370255' first='Gage' last='Wright'] appear likely to make many of our weekly standouts lists this season as the two have now gone back-to-back in the first two games of the year. Garretson also scored 5 touchdowns in the game like his counterpart Wright and was great through the air and on the ground while helping put up 72 points. The senior QB rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown while also throwing for 262 yards and 4 touchdowns. Garretson would also have 7 tackles on defense from his linebacker position and the two-way starter has had a blazing start to his senior year.

Isaiah Delauder - Washington '24 RB

A new name on our radar is senior Washington running back Isaiah Delauder who had a breakout game versus Thomas Johnson (MD) in a 37-19 loss. Delauder eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark and also ran in all three touchdowns for the Patriots. He finished with 218 yards on the night and is another weapon for Washington's revamped offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='370254' first='David' last='Parsons'] - Parkersburg '24 QB

[player_tooltip player_id='370254' first='David' last='Parsons'] makes his second appearance on our weekly standouts list and put up even more eye-popping numbers in week two. The senior Big Red quarterback threw for 317 and another 4 touchdowns as he did in week one as well bringing his total to 8 through two games. The 6'3 225 gunslinger threw with nice touch and flashed his strong arm at times too in Parkersburg's 47-0 win over Riverside. Parsons also threw well rolling out and it's always fun to watch him throw from a variety of arm angles and show off his arm strength.

[player_tooltip player_id='370301' first='Anthony' last='Ice'] - Parkersburg '24 WR

One of [player_tooltip player_id='370254' first='David' last='Parsons']' favorite targets in their game against Riverside was senior WR [player_tooltip player_id='370301' first='Anthony' last='Ice'] who had an efficient but big game. The 5'9 speedster had just three catches but he scored on two of those for 134 yards at an incredible 44.6 yards per catch. Ice had an 87-yard touchdown reception which saw him break several tackles on a determined run after catch eventually outrunning every Riverside defender on his way to the end zone. He and Parsons should hook up many times through the air this season as the Big Red look to get back to their winning ways.

[player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson'] - University '24 QB

The fireworks were popping in University's 72-34 loss to Parkersburg South, but senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson'] finds himself on our weekly standouts for the second week in a row in as many attempts. Hudson threw for just under 400 yards and 4 touchdowns including 3 to [player_tooltip player_id='907236' first='Ethan' last='Jackson']. Although the Hawks fell short in the matchup, Hudson did all he could to keep his team in the game. He threw the ball all over the field and was throwing strikes from the pocket all night. University appears to have a dynamic passing attack behind the arm of [player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson'].

[player_tooltip player_id='907236' first='Ethan' last='Jackson'] - University '25 WR/DB

[player_tooltip player_id='862778' first='Luke' last='Hudson']'s favorite target on Friday night was 2025 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='907236' first='Ethan' last='Jackson'] who had a big night at receiver for the University Hawks. Jackson hauled in three of Hudson's four touchdown passes in the game and had well over 100 yards receiving and may have even eclipsed the 200-yard mark. Jackson could play receiver or defensive back at the next level but he showed he can play the receiver position at a high level in a tough loss to Parkersburg South.

[player_tooltip player_id='909000' first='Maverick' last='Lemasters'] - John Marshall '25 RB/LB

John Marshall has one of the more imposing offensive lines in the state this season and bruising running back [player_tooltip player_id='909000' first='Maverick' last='Lemasters'] was the beneficiary of the Monarchs' big men up front. The junior running back toted the ball 30 times for 208 yards and two scores in a close loss to Union Local (OH). Lemasters is a big-bodied running back who was set to be the starting fullback before a transfer happened and he's now their go-to guy at running back. He's a grind-it-out type of player who is a load to bring down. After a slow start to the season, the John Marshall running game finally got going behind five big senior linemen.

[player_tooltip player_id='370309' first='Murphy' last='Clement'] - Martinsburg '24 ATH

Senior QB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='370309' first='Murphy' last='Clement'] scored four times for the Martinsburg Bulldogs in their win over Stonebridge (VA). Clement's always-dangerous legs ran in three touchdowns although was limited to just 31 yards rushing on the night. He also threw for a touchdown on a 64-yard pass to [player_tooltip player_id='370322' first='Sirod' last='Musgrove']. The do-it-all athlete has had a great start to the year and the undefeated Martinsburg Bulldogs appear to be on pace to reach the Class AAA state championship game yet again after a one-year hiatus.

[player_tooltip player_id='865706' first='Koi' last='Fagan'] - Martinsburg '25 ATH

[player_tooltip player_id='865706' first='Koi' last='Fagan'] may be in line to be the Bulldogs' QB1 next year but the junior athlete is too talented to keep on the sidelines. He's been clocked in the 4.5 40 range and is seeing time at running back this year. Fagan had touchdown runs of 31 and 78 yards in Martinsburg's 41-7 win over Stonebridge (VA). Fagan was able to relieve some load off of senior QB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='370309' first='Murphy' last='Clement'] and the Bulldogs may have found themselves yet another playmaker on offense to use this year which they certainly have no shortage of.

[player_tooltip player_id='1052776' first='Brody' last='Hamric'] - Greenbrier East '26 QB

Greenbrier East was looking for new offensive weapons to step up after star running back [player_tooltip player_id='370282' first='Ian' last='Cline'] transferred to North Carolina for his senior year and sophomore QB [player_tooltip player_id='1052776' first='Brody' last='Hamric'] stepped up in week two for the Spartans in a narrow loss to Woodrow Wilson. The young signal caller was 12 of 24 for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns in a close 42-39 loss to rival Woodrow Wilson which saw Greenbrier East have quite the comeback attempt.

[player_tooltip player_id='370369' first='Elijah' last='Redfern'] - Woodrow Wilson '24 WR

Known for being a standout basketball player, Woodrow Wilson athlete [player_tooltip player_id='370369' first='Elijah' last='Redfern'] is also quite talented on the gridiron and the 6'3 175 receiver scored three times for the Flying Eagles in their close win over rival Greenbrier East. Redfern rushed just 3 times for 10 yards but scored twice on the ground. He also added a receiving touchdown on 5 catches for 86 yards. After not scoring in week one, Redfern bounced back with a big night in a big rivalry win over the Spartans.

Week two has come and gone and there were plenty of standout performers in the second week of the WV high school football season. Here are 17 athletes that stood out during week two of the season.
