UPSET ALERT

Westmoore 16, Jenks 12

We start with the upset of the night as #8 Westmoore went into Jenks and got a 16-12 win over #4 Jenks. It's not often that the west side has success against the Tulsa-area schools but we've mentioned how the west has made progress. And the Trojans had already dropped a game at home to Edmond Santa Fe to start the season and now the Jaguars came in and beat the Trojans. The Jaguars led 14-6 at half and would hold on to get a massive win. The Class 6A-1 picture continues to be incredibly confusing outside of the defending champs from Bixby and this game is a perfect example. Week zero, Union hammers Westmoore. Week two, Jenks beats Union. Week five, Westmoore beats Jenks.

Westmoore was led by their star quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='393973' first='Micheal' last='Graham'] on Friday night, who was just added to our PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year watchlist earlier in the day. He had two touchdown passes in the first half and was dangerous once again in the ground attack throughout the night. Jenks had 1st and goal with less than 30 seconds to play but a penalty followed by an interception in the end zone with no time on the clock put an end to the Trojans rallying on Friday night.

Coweta 24, Sapulpa 19

Down in Class 5A, we had Coweta reminding everyone that the defending district champs aren't ready to give up that crown as they beat Sapulpa 24-19. Despite the Chieftains out-gaining the Tigers throughout the night, turnovers would doom Sapulpa and Coweta took full advantage. The Chieftains had five interceptions and the Tigers were able to find success on the offensive side of the ball with senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='288967' first='Kevon' last='Robinson'] after he scored two touchdowns on the night.

Sapulpa now has to regroup heading into week six as they'll play host to #2 Del City, who was dominant against McAlester Friday night. Coweta might have been overlooked after losing a special senior class and starting the year with an 0-2 record. But when you dive into the record, it makes sense as they lost to defending 5A and 4A champion Carl Albert and Wagoner respectively. The Tigers are hoping this win gives them momentum heading into the rest of district play. They have a tough road test with McAlester coming up.

SHOOTOUT THRILLERS

El Reno 68, Noble 67

It goes without saying but defense was optional here as El Reno would survive a shootout with Noble, winning 68-67 in a game that will have some pretty big district implications for the playoffs. What's impressive about this game is the fact that both teams did it in two different ways. El Reno relied on their star running back [player_tooltip player_id='917639' first='Malachi' last='Nicholson'] and the ground game while Noble did most of their damage in the air. Nicholson could not be stopped as he ran for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns on the night. At the time that this article published, we have not been able to find another running back that ran for more yards than Nicholson and it appears that he now has the state's all time single game record for yards.

Norman 44, Edmond Memorial 43 OT

After an 0-3 start, Norman has won their last two games and they've taken another step towards returning to the playoffs. It was a dramatic win as the Tigers pulled off a fourth quarter rally and then would win it in overtime. Halfway through the final quarter, Norman trailed by 14. They would score a pair of touchdowns and none more dramatic than quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='211962' first='Phoenix' last='Murphy'] finding star [player_tooltip player_id='595764' first='Dax' last='Noles'] with just under a minute to play for a 59-yard touchdown to send the game to overtime. Noles would then play the role of hero in overtime. After Norman answered Edmond Memorial's touchdown with one of their own, Noles powered in the two point conversion for the win.

STATEMENT WINS

Bishop Kelley 39, Collinsville 28

Bishop Kelley made a statement at home behind a strong rushing attack as they beat Collinsville 39-28 and handed the Cardinals their first loss of the year. The Comets had two players finish with over 100 yards on the ground, including quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='911901' first='Stice' last='Smith'] who led the team in rushing. The Comets are another team that had a slow start this season because of a brutal non-district schedule. They began the year 0-2 but have rattled off three straight wins and this one was very important for playoff seeding down the line in Class 5A.

Del City 35, McAlester 21

Speaking of important 5A games with playoff implications, #2 Del City remained unbeaten with a 35-21 win on the road against McAlester. The Eagles left no doubt and made sure we wouldn't see a repeat of last year where the Buffaloes rallied to stun Del City in overtime. The Eagles led 28-0 at halftime and were led by their stars on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='215198' first='River' last='Warren'] and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='215200' first='Ladainian' last='Fields'] both had solid nights as the Eagles continue to look like one of the best teams in Class 5A. They have another tough road game coming up against a hungry Sapulpa team that's coming off a loss.

Owasso 54, Mustang 3

The Owasso Rams bounced back in a major way after losing in a blowout to Union last week. The Rams would take out some frustration on Mustang with a 54-3 victory and the Rams are now still in contention for the district title but will need some help. They are in a better position to get a first round bye with the win. The Rams were outstanding on offense as they were led by quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='110745' first='Knox' last='Dyson'] but the offense also featured a solid balance to their attack. They had over 200 passing yards and over 200 rushing yards in the win. This was a win that Owasso needed and the Rams were able to answer the call.

Victory Christian 50, Beggs 34

In another high-scoring affair, Victory Christian got a big win over Beggs in a battle of top ten teams in Class 2A. Victory Christian remained in the top five after a 50-34 win over the Demons and this keeps the Conquerors alive for the district title. Other district opponents Kansas and Kiefer are still unbeaten as well so showdowns with those teams are looming. The backfield duo of [player_tooltip player_id='897801' first='Ayden' last='Hamilton'] at quarterback and [player_tooltip player_id='402373' first='Dallas' last='Dyer'] at running back was hard to stop on Friday night. The Conquerors have proven that they can absolutely light up the scoreboard so far this season.

BEST OF THE REST

Blanchard 28, Newcastle 13

We'll say this every week until it's not true. 4A-2 is the best district in the class and because of that, they usually have the game of the week in the class. #3 Blanchard knocked off #5 Newcastle on the road with a 28-13 victory. The Lions really did a good job defensively, limiting Newcastle's balanced offensive attack. Now, they have another top five clash in week six but it comes at home as they host #4 Tuttle on Friday night.

Clinton 21, Elk City 7

Out in western Oklahoma, Clinton continued to give rival Elk City problems as they would win 21-7. That sets up another top ten clash out in western Oklahoma when Clinton will travel to Weatherford to face the Eagles. With a win over Elk City, if they can back that up with a win over Weatherford, they'll be in a great position to capture the district championship. After trailing 7-6 early in the second half, Clinton would pull away for the win.

Perkins-Tryon 21, Metro Christian 7

There's a lot of football left to be played but Perkins-Tryon took one step towards locking up the district title with a 21-7 win over Metro Christian. These two teams were tied at 7 at halftime and the Demons were carried to the win by their senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='231981' first='Tre' last='Stevenson'] in the second half. He scored a pair of second half touchdowns to help Perkins-Tryon avenge a loss to Metro Christian last season. The Demons are in good shape moving forward.

Tipton 40, Ryan 32

Defending Class C champion Tipton finally got a test this season after dominating their way to a 4-0 start. They squared off with #2 Ryan in a 1 VS 2 battle and the defending champs came out with the 40-32 victory. That puts Tipton in a great position to defend their district championship and set them up to defend that state title. A showdown with another top five team in Mountain View-Gotebo is coming in a few weeks.
