They are criminally underrated and underrecruited. Hopefully, some of these guys should be generating some interest this summer into the fall. These guys vary from what levels they are projected to play at, but local schools should note some of these prospects. Also, just a side note before you jump in, rankings here do not matter; 2024 rankings will be updated this summer, and you can use this article as a “these guys will likely be pretty high” sort of indicator as well.
Ja’Meer Thomas Ja’Meer Thomas 5’10” | 170 lbs | WR Bennett | 2024 State NY was a standout on a loaded Bennett State Championship team in 2022 and there were often games where he looked like the best player on a team that fielded a Buffalo signee, Syracuse signee in 2023, and a 2026 with multiple D1 offers. Thomas has elite speed, and if not for top 24′ Josiah Brown Josiah Brown 5’11” | 175 lbs | WR Malverne | 2024 State NY from Long Island would likely be the fastest player in the state. Thomas has great tape on both sides of the ball, as a receiver using his speed and quickness to create seperation and as a defensive back using really good defensive instincts and ball skills to make plays on the ball. Last January, Thomas received in offer from Akron but I have not seen anything on the recruiting front since. Should be one of the best players coming out of New York in the class of 2024.

Dallas Harris Dallas Harris 6’2″ | 285 lbs | OL University Prep | 2024 State NY is a veteran for Uprep and the center prospect has all the tools to play at the next level. I think Harris at 6’2, 282lbs projects as a really solid FCS player and not many offensive lineman have the combination of power and quickness that Harris has. With multiple years as a starter already Harris is one of the more fundamentally sound players at Center in this class and does not have to rely on his athletic ability to win. Harris is one of New Yorks top OL prospects and could be the best center in this class.

Josira Andrews Josira Andrews 5’10” | DB Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY was a key piece to a stacked Erasmus Hall secondary last season and with a few very significant graduations he will be the focal point of their secondary headed into the season. The safety prospect is listed at 5’10 but just like his DB teammates last year size should stop him from getting some division I interest. Andrews plays with great instincts and shows really good aggressiveness as a safety both in the run game and against the pass. I saw Andrews play twice last season and both times he made impressive plays for Erasmus Hall. Andrews is one of the better ball hawks in this class and his willingness to make an impact in the run game make him overall one of the best safeties in New York.
Nakei Johnson Nakei Johnson 5’11” | 165 lbs | DB Newburgh | 2024 State NY is another athlete on this list who has elite speed. The cornerback from Newburgh has D1 level speed and he showcased throughout the season why he was one of the best cover corners in New York. His overall athleticism help him mirror wideouts and his ability to get his head back to the ball and impact the catch point are really solid. Johnson is also a physical tackler who can make players against the run behind the LOS but also break up passes by being physical with wide receivers. A top athlete and cornerback in New York who has the athleticism to garner some potential FCS interest.

Tyrone Davis Tyrone Davis 6’4″ | 280 lbs | OL Corcoran | 2024 State NY ‘ film is a must watch for any interested in consistent pancakes and dominant run blocking. Davis is a mauler and he is so physical and aggressive at the point of attack that he usually wins at initial contact. He moves well and can finish guys in the second level consistently. His wide base and quick feet are really solid traits when it comes to projecting him as a pass protector which there is not a lot on tape. Physically, one of the most dominant lineman in the state. Has offers from New Hampshire and Temple, but only two offers does not do what Davis can do on the football field justice.
Just learned about Shane Reilly Shane Reilly 5’10” | 165 lbs | ATH Sachem North | 2024 State NY recently and man this kid is a stud at wide receiver. One of the best route runners in the state, Reilly knows how to get open. He makes really tough catches look easy and routinley showcases the ability to use his body and positioning to box out defenders from making a play on the ball. I think Reilly could be a really solid player at the FCS or DII level and that is where most of his interest will be. He is a candidate to be one of the top receivers on long island this season and is one of the most exciting players to watch for Sachem North.
D’Angelo Gordon is one of those players that regardless of what position he is player is probably one of the best players and athletes on the field. He plays QB for Freeport but likely projects at a skill position at the next level. With the ball in his hands Gordon has great balance through contact and the quickness to make players miss in space. Gordon has a strong base and keeps his legs moving consistently breaking tackles of guys who try to go low. On defense, at safety Gordon is versatile and can defender the run, pass, but also is one of the best blitzing DBs in New York. Gordon is a guy who is like a magnet to the ball and has the instincts and athleticism to make plays consistently.

Victor Huttinot Victor Huttinot 6’0″ | 215 lbs | LB Iona Prep | 2024 State NY had a solid season at LB for Iona Prep, I saw him play once and he showcased some really solid well rounded skills as a defender. Huttinot sees the game well and he can find runners through traffic. He is a solid blitzer and can make plays in space against athletic QBs and RBs. Huttinot is a really fundamentally sound player as well, I think his skillset translates really well to the DII level but with good performances at camps this summer and showcasing some more athleticism on tape he could easily become an FCS level player due to his solid tape and fundamentals from the LB position.
