Expert Analysis
Jared Valluzzi | Prep Redzone Scout
Another all around athlete who was one of the top overall players in the state. Gordon won the MVP award in a talented Nassau Conference 1. He was one of the best tackling defensive backs, and he played everywhere for the Red Devils. Gordon hit very hard and was also electrifying when he got to carry the football.

The all around athlete will once again be the “go to guy” for Freeport during this uphill battle against a very good Syosset team. Despite the Red Devils losing the last two games, Gordon has still shown out. He surpassed 150 yards in both of those contests and found the end zone multiple times. Last year he was strictly at quarterback but this season Freeport has utilized him all over the field. You’ll see him at running back, wide receiver and even potentially take snaps at QB once again. You can expect him to get a lot of carries and if he’s able to get to the second level it’s scary. He is one of the most exciting runners in the open field, his speed and moves to get past defenders are both very effective. Gordon is also a hard hitter at defensive back. Syosset loves to pass the ball, and Gordon will be relied on to anchor this secondary to get some stops in a game where the defense has to play well.

The athlete from Freeport is a do it all player, but he would be my pick as the top defensive back in all of Nassau County. Gordon has the lateral quickness and explosiveness to stay with any receiver. He was also an excellent run stopper from the DB spot. He might be a finesse player on offense, but on the defensive side of the ball, he is as good of a tackler as you will see.

D’Angelo Gordon is one of those players that regardless of what position he is player is probably one of the best players and athletes on the field. He plays QB for Freeport but likely projects at a skill position at the next level. With the ball in his hands Gordon has great balance through contact and the quickness to make players miss in space. Gordon has a strong base and keeps his legs moving consistently breaking tackles of guys who try to go low. On defense, at safety Gordon is versatile and can defender the run, pass, but also is one of the best blitzing DBs in New York. Gordon is a guy who is like a magnet to the ball and has the instincts and athleticism to make plays consistently.
