In this post, we put a spotlight on the top ten prospects. These are the very best in Oklahoma’s 2023 class. Stay tuned for more spotlights on various positions as well as check out some of the newcomers and stock risers from the latest ranking update!
1) Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK – Tight End – Bixby
Holding on to the top spot in the 2023 rankings is Bixby tight end and Arkansas commit Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK . The last year has been an absolute whirlwind for the Bixby product following his breakout sophomore campaign. He very quickly became one of the top prospects in the 2023 class, not only in Oklahoma but in the country. He has all the tools that you’re looking for from a tight end prospect and is only getting more and more confident each time he steps on the football field.
2) Bai Jobe Bai Jobe 6'5" | DL Community Christian | 2023 State OK – Defensive Lineman – Community Christian
Picking up right off that last sentence with Luke Hasz Luke Hasz 6'4" | TE Bixby | 2023 State OK is where we’ll start with Community Christian star Bai Jobe Bai Jobe 6'5" | DL Community Christian | 2023 State OK . The Community Christian standout moved to Norman from Africa and only played a few games as a sophomore and that was his first time playing organized football in his life. So each time Jobe steps onto the field, it’s a learning process and what’s scary is how far he’s already come. Combine that with the freakish athletic ability and he’ll be pushing Hasz for that top spot very soon.
3) Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK – Wide Receiver/Defensive Back – Booker T Washington
Booker T Washington once again has a prospect considered one of the best in the state and in the top three of the recent ranking update. Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK has been one of the state’s best wide receivers over the last few years but when it comes to what he’ll be at the next level, the signs are starting to point to the defensive side of the ball. While we understand where that argument could be made, we can’t help but look at what Tease does on offense over the last few years and think he could end up doing both if he wanted to.
4) JaKobe Sanders JaKobe Sanders 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Stillwater | 2023 State OK – Offensive Lineman – Stillwater
The only offensive lineman in the top ten is one that we’ve liked for two years now. Stillwater JaKobe Sanders JaKobe Sanders 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL Stillwater | 2023 State OK has been on our radar since his breakout season as a freshman and he’s only gotten better from there. He settled into what might be a natural fit at center during his junior season and we’re on the record that Sanders has the potential to be the next Creed Humphrey to come out of Oklahoma. A consistent presence at center that could start several years at the next level.
5) Erik McCarty Erik McCarty 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB McAlester | 2023 State OK – Running Back – McAlester
McAlester superstar Erik McCarty Erik McCarty 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB McAlester | 2023 State OK jumps into the top five after a junior season where he led McAlester to the state championship game and was the winner of our 2021 Prep Redzone Oklahoma Player Of The Year award. McCarty was one of the more dominant football players we saw in 2021 and what’s scary is his future is probably on defense. Despite the 2,000 yards and 30+ touchdown seasons, McCarty could end up being a linebacker at the next level. He committed to OU recently.
6) Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK – Wide Receiver – Owasso
Whenever you get offers from Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M within a 72-hour window, you’re probably one of the best at your position in the country, let alone your state. That’s the case for Owasso wide receiver Cole Adams Cole Adams 6'0" | WR Owasso | 2023 State OK , who has been a star for the Rams since he was a freshman. Adams also impacted the game in special teams as a return specialist and was one of the best in the state at that as well. We can’t wait to see what Adams does in 2022 as the clear number one target in Owasso’s offense.
7) Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'4" | DB Mustang | 2023 State OK – Defensive Back – Mustang
Mustang’s Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'4" | DB Mustang | 2023 State OK was probably the first 2023 prospect to be known around the state as he was one of the first 2023 prospects to be offered. And he was offered by quite a few schools for both football and basketball. And he’s an outstanding guard in basketball and was ranked as the #6 prospect in our Prep Hoops 2023 Rankings. But as I’ve felt since his freshman season, I think Johnson’s brightest future is as a corner. He is so good at locking down an opponent’s top receiver and the sky is the limit there.
8) Chance Jordan Chance Jordan 6'0" | 270 lbs | DL Morris | 2023 State OK – Defensive Lineman – Beggs
Beggs defensive lineman Chance Jordan Chance Jordan 6'0" | 270 lbs | DL Morris | 2023 State OK is without a doubt in our mind the top traditional defensive lineman prospect in this 2023 class. Bai Jobe Bai Jobe 6'5" | DL Community Christian | 2023 State OK is a freak athlete but he could be a variety of things, although we have him in this post as a defensive end. Jordan is a defensive tackle and there’s no mistaking that. Jordan’s combination of speed and strength make him an absolute nightmare for opponents to stay in front of. He reminds us a lot of former Vian standout Solomon Wright from a few years ago.
9) Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK – Wide Receiver – Plainview
Plainview wide receiver Morgan Pearson Morgan Pearson 6'2" | 220 lbs | ATH Plainview | 2023 State OK has been on our radar since his freshman season and he continues to impress every time we see him. Just like Jacobe Johnson Jacobe Johnson 6'4" | DB Mustang | 2023 State OK at Mustang, Pearson is a two-sport star and is also receiving interest in baseball. And unlike Johnson, Pearson could potentially play two sports at the next level. But when it comes to the Plainview standout on the football field, he is one of the very best wide receivers and has the physical nature to make an instant impact at the next level.
10) Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK – Defensive Back – Del City
Just like Pearson at Plainview, Del City defensive back Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK has been considered one of the best overall prospects in this class since his freshman season. We can’t wait to see what Thomas and the Eagles do in 2022 as they move from 6A-2 to Class 5A and instantly become serious contenders for a state championship run. Thomas is one of the very best cornerbacks in the state’s 2023 class and has been a lock for the top ten essentially in every ranking update.
