Del City’s Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK has been one of the top cornerbacks in the state since his freshman season. He had a breakout year in 2019 and has been a lockdown player ever since. We’ve seen Thomas quite a bit over the last three seasons and every time we do, we’re convinced that if he played in a “recruiting hotbed” state, he would have some major programs coming after him. Currently committed to Kansas State, Thomas is clearly a Power Five prospect and there’s a good chance that Thomas makes a lot of programs regret not taking a harder look at him. This season, in addition to being one of the top corners in the state, Thomas has been arguably their best playmaker on the offensive side of the ball. The Eagles are a serious state title contender this year.

In the biggest game of the week, it’s #3 Del City hosting #6 McAlester in a 5A district clash. We wrote earlier this week that it’s the biggest two weeks of the season for McAlester as they face the Eagles and then #1 Coweta on the road next week. Del City has been absolutely dominant so far this season but Friday’s clash against McAlester will test the Eagles. One of their top players over the last three years has been senior defensive back Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK , who is committed to Kansas State. But in addition to being a lockdown corner, Thomas has emerged as arguably the top playmaker within the Del City offense. The Eagles were a run-heavy offense last year but this year they’ve become more balanced and Thomas has become the leading wide receiver. Thomas and the Eagles are hungry to truly contend for the Class 5A state championship this season.

While Godwin might have been the breakout player from their week zero win, there’s no doubt about who the player of the game was and that’s Kansas State commit Kanijal Thomas Kanijal Thomas 6'1" | DB Del City | 2023 State OK . One of the top defensive backs in the 2023 class, Thomas showed that he can be just as dangerous on offense as he caught five passes for over 150 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Not to mention he had an interception on the defensive side of the ball. Booker T Washington’s strength on offense is their passing game and the experience they have at quarterback in Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK , along with star wide receiver Micah Tease Micah Tease 6'1" | WR Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK . It will be up to Thomas and the rest of the Del City secondary to shut down the Hornet passing attack. And at the same time, it looks like Thomas will be one of Del City’s top offensive weapons this season.
