I was looking forward to checking out Grider’s film after hearing good things about his game. His junior highlight video did not disappoint. A versatile and well-rounded safety, Grider sticks in coverage because he smoothly changes direction, back pedals effectively and closes quickly on the ball. Long arms also aid the operation in guarding receivers. Grider plays with physicality, too. He diagnoses plays fast and gets downhill in a hurry when identifying a run. Grider has plenty of room to fill out his projectable frame by adding strength in a college conditioning program. Production hasn’t been a problem for the Johnston defensive back. As a junior this past season, he piled up 46.0 tackles, 39 of which were solo stops. Grider contributed 4.0 tackles for loss and intercepted a pair of passes. He would do well getting into offseason combines and college camps.
