I love everything about Trew Paxton, a Class of 2027 linebacker for Center Grove. Very good run defender. Good downhill hitter as a linebacker; flows to the ball and has great instincts and on-field awareness. Can wrap up in space. Takes good angles without over pursing. Key returner on a defense and team looking to make a return to the state championships.
Paxson is coming off a huge breakout season where he helped lead the Center Grove offense from the middle. He was a reliable tackling machine who was always near the ball. He’s got really good vision and instincts after the snap. He trusts what he sees and then collapses towards the ball with good angles. While he can drop back into both man and zone coverages, he’s also good against the run, filling gaps. He seems to be fairly well coached and has the ideal frame to play in the second level for a long time. His snap timing and ability to anticipate it set him apart from most other LBs. He ended the season with 127 total tackles, 11 TFLs, 3 sacks, and a fumble recovery while showing why he’s quickly climbing boards everywhere.
Paxson’s breakout has been huge for Center Grove. Not only has he been good and productive, but he looks the part. He’s a good athlete, strong, and has a good sense of feel on the field. He’s not one to miss tackles and wrap up in open spaces. He’s good at creating pressure and getting home as well. His 52 tackles lead the team. He then has 6 TFLs, 2 sacks, and a recovered fumble through 5 weeks. He’ll be busy Friday night with the running game, so I’ll be curious to see how he holds up.
Tree Paxson is making a huge impact on the Center Grove defense. Possessing prototypical size and strength, Paxson is a great open-field tackler and strong pass rusher. Paxson’s hits can pack a punch, and totaling 43 tackles and two forced fumbles so far this season he is likely due to receive several college offers this winter.
