Young transferred from Episcopal Academy (VA) to St. John’s College during the off-season. He currently has no offers, but I can see that changing with his change of scenery. His length and frame are pluses. He was very competitive with good recovery and showed an ability to win reps when he wins the hand fight. Solid mirroring skills. Thought he needed to be quicker with his hand placement, especially against quicker linemen. He’s with a program that’ll help him take hs game to another level.

Young did a few things well during 1v1s. I thought he showed a strong anchor against a power rush during one rep. He maintained a solid base and stonewalled the rusher at the line. In another rep, he showed nice hand placement and timing by neutralizing the rusher’s straight-line speed. He was able to maintain his position by shooting his hands inside early and staying locked in. Young’s ability to recover and finish was shown in a few reps as well. I think he needs to work on his lateral quickness to compete against athletic defensive tackles who possess good lateral quickness. Working on core strength and leverage positioning to stay square against explosive opponents will help him as well.
