was on our short list for comeback players after he missed nearly all of the 2022 season with a leg injury. Calmus returned with a vengeance and led the Trojans in tackles as a senior. And whenever we saw the Trojans in person, Calmus was routinely one of the best players on the field. When we look at his senior season, his performance in the semifinals will always stand out. As Jenks made a comeback to beat Union, Calmus played like a man possessed in the second half. He earned All State 1st Team honors.

We mentioned earlier how Jenks had an injury-plagued 2022 season. Another player that missed significant time during that season was

at the linebacker position. Calmus had a season-ending leg injury very early on in his junior season. But when he came back to the field in 2023, it looked like he was stronger than ever. Simply put, Calmus was one of the best linebackers in the state and that’s not up for debate. We watched a lot of football throughout the 2023 season and Calmus was one of the very best defensive players we saw in person. The Jenks senior produced at a very high level and it seemed like he was at his very best in some of their biggest games this season.

Before this season began, we wrote about five players to watch this season that were coming off significant injuries last season. Jenks linebacker

was one of them. He had his junior season come to an end very early on in the season with a leg injury. This season, he’s made up for the lost time and has been one of the top linebackers in the state. He leads the team in tackles and was a man possessed in their semifinal win over rival Union. As the Trojans hit a different gear in the second half defensively, Calmus matched the intensity and was all over the place. He was once again a tackling machine.

We could have gone with a couple Jenks Trojans right here as they had one of their worst seasons in terms of injuries in recent memory. But 2024 linebacker

takes the spot heading into this season because the senior linebacker was primed for an outstanding junior season and it was cut short in the first few weeks of the season. Calmus had a devastating leg injury in their week two win over Owasso and would miss the rest of the year. Calmus is back to full strength and is ready to earn his spot as one of the top linebackers in the Tulsa area. The potential is certainly there and we think that Calmus is going to have an outstanding senior season, leading a Jenks defensive unit that could be among the best in 6A-1 this season. Over the last five years, the Trojans have routinely had outstanding linebackers that are always near the top of the charts in 6A-1 in terms of tackles and we think that Calmus fits that role heading into this season. Right now, Calmus is a top ten linebacker prospect in the state’s 2024 rankings but we can see the potential for him to jump into the top five with a strong season.

is the other. After suffering a leg injury very early on in the 2022 season, Calmus had to sit it out and he has to be fired up to get back on the field for the Trojans this fall. The last name Calmus and Jenks football feel synonymous at this point and we’re looking forward to seeing a healthy

this season. The Trojans lost a few key pieces in their front seven and specifically at linebacker. We anticipate Calmus to step into a bigger role and be one of Jenks’ leading tacklers this season. If he has a good fall, the opportunities to play at the next level will follow as college coaches are waiting for Calmus to explode.

During this ranking update, this was one of the hardest evaluations in the state’s 2024 class. On one hand, Jenks linebacker

is one of the top guys at the position. On the other hand, Calmus missed basically his entire junior season with a season-ending injury. So it’s tough to compare Calmus to some of the other linebackers in this class simply from a performance on the field perspective. But we still think Calmus belongs and it’s only a matter of time before he not only gets back on the field and returns to full strength, but his recruitment should explode this summer. Calmus was primed for a big junior season before the injury and he should return to form this spring and summer. The Trojans are going to look to Calmus to replace some very productive linebackers in the 2023 class and he should not only be able to replace that productivity but he should climb the 2024 ranks.

There’s no doubt that this was one of the hardest evaluations to make during this last ranking update. Jenks junior linebacker

has been out for nearly the entire season as the Trojans were arguably the hardest hit team when it comes to injuries. But when it comes to Calmus when he’s healthy, there is a lot to like and unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait until his senior season to see those skills come out. The Jenks linebacker was on our short list for prospects that could have a breakout season this fall prior to the year beginning. But with the injury taking Calmus out, we’re missing out on that breakout moment. But Calmus is still a prospect to keep an eye on because once he gets back on the field and is healthy, we expect him to make up for lost time.
