The move to South Charleston has given 2028 WR/DB James Lowe a chance to show a different side of his game, and he’s stood out at safety for the Black Eagles. Lowe is listed in our rankings as a receiver, but his athleticism has translated well to the back end of the defense, where he’s quick, agile, and comfortable playing in space. He has the speed and quickness to close on the football and fly around making plays, and he’s not afraid to get downhill despite his smaller frame. Lowe is still physically maturing, but he has the athletic traits and a lot of the qualities you want to see in a defensive back.

A Top 10 receiver in the class, Lowe brings another explosive option to an offense that already features plenty of playmakers. He’ll compete for touches in a crowded receiver room, but his dynamic skill set makes him a player the Black Eagles will want to get involved. Lowe has flashed big-play ability throughout his first two seasons and has the versatility to earn a starting role in the secondary as well. He’s another significant addition who raises the overall talent level of an already impressive roster.

That performance warranted a Top 10 WR ranking at this point in his young career, but future game film will determine which direction he moves in the rankings. Lowe flashed playmaking ability as a slot receiver at said camp and performed well during 1-on-1s among a talented skill group in attendance. He’s a name to tuck away for later once he produces film, but he’s sure to develop into a standout player on Friday nights for the Red Dragons.

He’s a very athletic slot receiver with very good early speed and quickness that made him a difficult cover in 1-on-1s. Lowe was among the fastest players at the camp, proving so during the 40-yard dash segment. He ran step for step with the fastest receivers during 1-on-1s as a defensive back and has a ton of upside athletically that can be developed into a future star receiver for the Red Dragons.
