He was excellent as an edge rusher and in pass coverage for the South. All of the linebackers for the South were excellent, but Hansen and Matranga stood out.

After the first quarter, Mission Viejo shut down the Granite Hills running game.

Jack Matranga and fellow linebacker Jonavan Asuncion racked up the tackles. Matranga had a team-high 14 tackles. He was flying all over the field and even looked good when he dropped into pass coverage.

Matranga showed good lateral quickness and made a lot of plays outside the hashes. He has a high motor as a blitzer and caused havoc rushing the passer.

Mission Viejo linebacker Jack Matranga Jack Matranga Jack Matranga 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB/TE Mission Viejo | 2024 State CA announced his commitment to Air Force last Friday.

He had 71 tackles, 22 for a loss, seven sacks, 12 hurries and two forced fumbles for Mission Viejo last season.

Air Force was the only Division 1 school to offer Matranga, although he participated in junior day at Southern Utah.

Matranga is the second player from Southern California in Air Force’s 2024 recruiting class, joining his South Coast League opponent Travis Wood Travis Wood Travis Wood 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Tesoro | 2024 State CA of Tesoro.

I’ve seen Matranga in real games before and always knew he was a very good tackler. He showed at the camp that he is also solid in man pass coverage against running backs.

He is not playing baseball this spring and the extra time he has put into football training appears to have paid off.
