Mission Viejo beat Granite Hills 49-21 to advance to the state championship game against De La Salle.
Here are the defensive players who stood out for each team.
MISSION VIEJO
After the first quarter, Mission Viejo shut down the Granite Hills running game.
Jack Matranga and fellow linebacker Jonavan Asuncion racked up the tackles. Matranga had a team-high 14 tackles. He was flying all over the field and even looked good when he dropped into pass coverage.
Williams is one of the best pass rushers in the Southern Section and he showed that against Granite Hills.
He had a sack with a forced fumble on top of tallying 10 tackles. Williams was matched up with a bigger right tackle and was able to blow past him and even occasionally match physicality with him.
Highlights
Jones is a ball-hawk as a sophomore nickel cornerback.
He returned an interception for a touchdown for the third time in four games and had an interception for the fourth consecutive games.
Jones covers so much of the field and it will be interesting to see him slide out to a split corner next season.
Travis Anderson Travis Anderson 6’0″ | 175 lbs | DB Mission Viejo | 2024 State CA had an interception and came up to make big hits in the running game.
He is a versatile defensive back who could be an impact player at Boise State.

Travis Ford Travis Ford 6’2″ | 235 lbs | LB Granite Hills | 2024 State CA looks much bigger than his 6’2, 235 pound frame. He has Division 1 level strength and explosiveness.
Granite Hills’ defense was dominant for the first two series of the game and Ford was a major part of that. He was constantly in the backfield.
Glaze had an insane 22 tackles and was flying all over the field for Granite Hills.
There were numerous times where his tackle prevented a potential huge play. The game turned into a blowout, but it would have done so faster if not for the tackling and instincts of Glaze.
