Isaiah Kenney Isaiah Kenney 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Frederick Douglass | 2023 State KY came into the 2022 season as our top ranked defensive back and proved himself to be worthy of that ranking. Kenney played a huge role in Frederick Douglass’ 5A State Championship run, finishing the season with 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, and seven interceptions. He lined up at safety in a very talented Broncos’ secondary and did a great job of reading plays from the back end. Kenney has shown the ability to read both the quarterback and route combinations and cover ground quickly to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. He has tremendous ball skill, breaking on pass with perfect timing to catch interceptions in stride, returning two interceptions for touchdowns this season. Kenney has also proven himself to be reliable against the run game as he does a great job of reading the play, filling the running lane, and making tackles in the open field. Isaiah is committed to Findlay where I see him becoming a key piece of their secondary.

Like Bryant, Kenney is a ball hawk at safety, reading the play and breaking at the perfect moment to make a play on the ball. He has tremendous ball skills, showing the ability to attack the ball at its highest point and make tough catches to come away with interceptions. Kenney is also reliable against the run, showing the ability to fill the lane to provide support. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Kenney does a great job of running his feet through contact to secure the tackle in the open field. Kenney currently holds offers from Findlay, Palmetto Prep, Kentucky Christian, and Kentucky, and I see him developing into a very reliable defensive back at the next level.

Kenney lined up at safety and showed the ability to make an impact both against the run and the pass. Against the run, Kenney did a great job of filling the lane to provide support. Once he got to the ball carrier, he did a great job of running his feet through contact to secure the tackle. He also did a good job of taking perfect angles to the football when the play was away from him which helped put him in a position to make tackles in the open field. Kenney finished the game with a team-leading eight total tackles and one tackle for loss. He also looked great in coverage, showing the ability to read routes and the quarterback to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. Kenney also showed impressive ball skills, coming away with an interception on Friday. Isaiah currently holds offers from Kentucky and Palmetto Prep and I see him being a very productive safety at the next level.

Kenney finished the year with 15 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and three interceptions in limited reps. He joins Bryant on the back end of the secondary at safety  and does a great job of reading the quarterback and route combinations. Once the ball is in the air, Kenney breaks on the ball with perfect timing to catch interceptions in stride. After the catch, Kenney has shown the ability to use his speed to return interceptions the other way for big plays, returning two interceptions for touchdowns this season. Against the run, Kenney has shown the ability to come downhill and fight through blocks to get to the ball carrier and make tackles in the open field. Kenney holds offers from Kentucky and Palmetto Prep, and I see him developing into a very productive defensive back wherever he decides to play at the next level.

While his snaps have been limited just like the rest of the starters, Kenney has still managed to come away with three interceptions on the season, returning two of them for touchdowns. When the ball is in the air, Isaiah has shown the ability to cover ground quickly and has the ball skills to attack the ball at its highest point. Against the run, Kenney has shown the ability to come downhill and fight through blocks on his way to the ball and secure tackles in the open field. While everyone might know his teammate, Ty Bryant Ty Bryant 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Frederick Douglass | 2023 State KY a little better, Kenney is a very talented safety. The first thing that stood out to me when watching Kenney’s film is his ability to cover ground quickly. Once the ball is in the air, he uses his speed to react and make plays from the opposite hash. This helps him to be able to bait the opposing quarterback by making him think that he isn’t in a position to make a play. He does a great job of reading route concepts and the quarterback and reacting to the play quickly. Kenney comes downhill in a hurry once the ball has been thrown and shows the ability to break on the ball to break up the pass. He is also a very reliable tackler in the open field that has shown the physicality to knock the ball loose. Isaiah currently holds one offer from Kentucky and I expect more to come as he has true Division I talent.
