Damyias was another lock when I was thinking through the traits. What he did at State this year helped him lock up this spot. We need our Perfect RB to be able to fly out of the backfield and not only create space on underneath routes/checkdowns but also be able to take the top off the defense on wheel routes. Lopez is one of the best, if not the best at that in WI. Another reason we want our athlete to play like Damyias is his reliable hands as he reels in the over the shoulder catches or goes up and high points it with strong hands. The perfect RB recruit definitely needs to be a receiving threat like Damyias.

. On the ground, Damyias is an explosive back that is able to turn the slightest glimpse of daylight into a field-flipping carry. His burst to top speed and the open field speed allow him to be patient behind the line, quickly find the lanes, and take off. Lopez really locks in his ability to threaten a defense with his abilities as a receiver out of the backfield. His speed is too much for LBs to cover him 1 on 1 out of the backfield. The senior even gives DBs trouble when he is asked to stretch the field on wheel routes or attacking up the seam. Get this kid on campus, let him pack on some size early on, and then let him change games later in his career with 5-7 touches. You could even bring him in at slot cornerback with his agility, quick feet, and reactive athleticism.

Damyias was impressive out of the backfield and in the defensive backfield in the D3 Championship. Lopez was a legitimate mismatch as a receiving back. He was able to get downfield on wheel routes and easily track the ball and make the catch. He also showed that he was a dangerous threat after the catch, taking quick passes, making a man miss, and then getting upfield. On defense the DB was using that speed to fly around the field to chase down the GBND RB. The senior is still uncommitted. Check him out!

While Damyias may lack size, Catholic Memorial showed a lot of confidence and trust in his abilities having him play safety for them. Lopez shows off the range to make plays on the ball or tackles anywhere on the field. Part of that is due to his quick play recognition. The other part is the pure speed he plays with. I will be looking forward to seeing how well Lopez tests. I also want to see how well he is able to move in man coverage. The tape shows an athlete who can flip his hips and change direction with ease, so I hope he shines in those opportunities Sunday.
