That is no easy task because the entire defense is so loaded. But Will is one that must be identified because he will be all over the field from the slot to off ball OLB to coming off the edge. Will’s versatility and success in all those alignments make him a game wrecker if offenses don’t have a plan for him. Will brings the athleticism of a safety and the physicality of an LB to the field allowing him to attack in so many ways. I’m very excited for his summer camp performances.

Will is an interesting recruit. He holds our #1 LB/DB ranking for 2028s and the more I watch him the more I believe he could play LB or safety at the next level. In the end it will come down to what his frame best fits into. Currently at 6’2″ 210 lbs, the sophomore could go either way. Playing off the edge, Will brings the athleticism to dominate. He can crash in off the edge and chase down the ball from behind. His first step off the line and closing speed make him a nightmare to get an OL out to and also for the RB/QB to try and elude because he gets on top of them too quickly. Over and over the tape shows him taking on blocks and still making the stop. His athleticism, football IQ, and block shedding are going to make him a versatile defender that several teams should want.

The Catholic Memorial defense had plenty of young talent making an impact this past fall. One of the underclassmen leading the way was freshman LB Will Schmitzer Will Schmitzer 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB/DB Catholic Memorial | 2028 State WI . The 6’2″ 200 lbs LB was all over the field making plays and finishing the year with 58 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 2 sacks. The OLB already is looking like he will turn into a three down LB at the next level. He has the physicality and strength to take on blocks, set the edge, and make tackles vs the outside run game. Will also looks fluid dropping into coverage and changing direction to get into throwing windows. He has the speed to get around the edge and also run with receiving threats in the open field.
