Expert Analysis
Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
A metro-Atlanta back on the rise for thr mighty Grayson Rams, Gray was a consistent option in the run game last year for the Rams as he took off for 523 yards and eight touchdowns. Averaging an impressive 6.5 yards per game, Gray showed that even as a sophomore that he’s good enough to make an impact for one of the best high school football teams in the country. As good as he was as a sophomore, look for Gray to see more carries coem his way for the Rams next fall as a junior. He’s currently ranked as the No. 16 RB prospect in the state for his class.

Gray somewhat quietly had a productive sophomore season and is a top returning rusher for Grayson. He is a one-cut, explosive runner who keeps his feet active as he searches for and creates yards. There is still more burst he can add here, especially as he fills out. As those traits continue to develop, more college attention should follow here. But regardless, if he continues to produce against good competition, that buzz will likely develop anyway. He holds FBS offers.

Here is what I wrote up on Gray earlier this season:
“
Brandon Gray
Brandon
Gray

Grayson | 2028
State
GA
squeezed the most out of 23 carries in his breakout game, finishing with 192 yards and 2 TDs. Comes in at 5’9 185 and has the look of a prospect with more physical refinement left in the tank. Decisive, one-cut runner that stays squared to running lanes, keeps his feet running hot, and dances around contact in the box. He is a nickel and dime runner who will improve as he adds more play strength and burst. If he continues performing this way against good competition, expect Gray to generate plenty of buzz later this season.”

You can’t talk about loaded backfields without mentioning the 6A State Champ Grayson Rams. They return 12 guys that got work out of the backfield during last seasons Title run. The 5’9 185 Gray is the only freshman in that group that received carries. An alumni of our Prep Redzone camp, we got to see 1st hand his potential impact with the ball in his hand.
What Stands Out: Great frame, fierce competitor. Great vision in traffic and was a Top 5 tester in all the Camp metrics last year. Has really put the work in off the field to gain muscle.
Outlook: ’26 maybe the season Gray has the opportunity to earn the right to be the go to man for the Rams but he should see a significant in his action this season. Future star at the 6A level.

7.) Brandon Gray – 5’8 155 lbs, Georgia
RB Type: All-Purpose
Grades ()
Vision (8) Zig zags through traffic with a purpose. You. can see him scanning for any soft spots in the defense as he’s getting making ground.
Speed (8) Top 5 in all testing. #1 shuttle time for RBs. Enough burst to make you sweat. Has good wheels to get outside and finish big gains.
Power (7.5) Strong lower half that pulls defenders with him even if they try to tackle from behind for a couple extra inches.
Balance (7.5) Changes direction smoothly. Fights to stay up
Ball Security (8) Protects ball, limited exposure to running routes but is a skilled athlete
BPA-Big Play Ability (7.5) First down machine. Will pop one off when it’s there. Will become more of a threat to house it more often as he develops in a high school weight room.
I like Gray. Had the pleasure of covering him in Septembers article (https://prepredzone.com/2023/09/2028-ball-carriers-from-the-peach-state-on-the-rise/) of RBs rising out of Georgia. He has a lot of the attributes, but with a little more seasoning he is going to wreck high school if he gets enough carries to get in his flow.
Writer Lawrence Morgan liked what he saw in Brandon’s frame and how well he did competing in Atlanta.

Gray is a guy we talked about in a previous article as being one of top overall standouts at RB. Was impressive in all aspects of the Showcase. He was top 5 in all the metric categories and at 5’8 153 looked most ready physically to move to the high school level this Spring. Plays at an outstanding program in Grayson that has one of the best strength and conditioning programs in Georgia. A couple of years of development and this guy will be on everyone’s radar.

Gray passes the eye test when he walks on the field. A solid build at 5’8 154, the rising freshman 9th grader at Grayson was 2nd fastest in the 40 and had the quickest shuttle times among the RB prospects. Great footwork and vision. Can break it outside with the speed to take it to the house but also has the physicality to run North South. Only 13 years old and a few years in a varsity weight room and this guy will be on everyone’s radar.

is not making the tackle. This kid runs with a purpose and accelerates through the holes running behind his pads. He is physical but controlled when you watch him zig zag through traffic. His balance is also on point, and he runs with his eyes to the horizon which allows him to always fall forward moving the chains. It’s not often you see young backs at this age take pride in their blocking as well. I like Brandon’s maturity and I don’t see an issue with him transitioning to the next level when he’s done leaving his mark in Middle School
