Another 6A Metro contender with a stacked sophomore class, the Anoka Tornadoes 2025ers already have a significant amount of varsity experience under their belt after the 2022 season concluded. One of the best of the bunch is linebacker Zach Welch, who posted 70 tackles and 13 TFLs as a 6′, 200 lb. OLB last fall. He absolutely wrecked some QBs in the process, exploding off the edge like he was shot out of a cannon and closing on the ball before opponents can even react. Welch can get to top speed quickly, can run down plays from the backside, and does a good job of keeping his feet active and mirroring ball carriers while still squeezing space. Beats blockers with speed easily as well. Welch plays like his hair is on fire and is going to be competing for title of the state’s hardest hitter if he keeps this up. For now, he comes in as LB11 and #54 overall with a ton more room to improve that ranking. I’m excited to see it!
