After making his de-commitment from Penn State the other week, Darrell made his pledge to take his talents to UMD this recent week.
Darrell is a long, rangy DB who’s play has him making plays all over the field. He can cover lots of grass and will drop the hammer on receivers who come across him. Darrell plays with fluid hips allowing him to change direction and close on the ball. A top 15 overall player in the state and one of the top Safeties in the area it is a big time local get for the Terps. A chance Darell may possibly be joined be another DeMatha Stag & PSU de-commit. Carey is a dynamic playmaker in the defensive secondary, capable of locking down his side of the field with elite coverage skills. Whether it’s tracking the deep ball, jumping short routes, or staying stride-for-stride on crossing patterns, Carey consistently makes his presence felt. His impact in the secondary is undeniable, standing out as one of the top contributors in the state. Expect the Penn State commit to anchor the defensive backfield as he leads his unit toward another WCAC playoff berth.

deployed on your defense. MD Octane had exactly that, a prospect who could clearly align any and everywhere, Carey showed up and dominated on defense. His entire frame, all 6’3, 180 pounds, was on full display, leaving all writers drooling over the thought of having a weapon like this on Friday nights. 7v7 is cool, yet as an outsider looking in, I can quickly understand why this young man is such a coveted recruit out of DeMatha.
I’m aware of his prowess as a defender, yet I would have loved to see him used on offense. MD Octane wasn’t in need, but this is coming from the selfish evaluator in me. The three-star safety is down to his Final Five, with Penn State, Maryland, and South Carolina all holding spots.

Darrell was another defender for Team Octane that made impacts at multiple spots. Able to play pretty much everyone on the field, lining up at LB, CB, S. He used his elite length to get his hands on a lot of passes for PBUs. That size and versatility helped Octane play multiple defenses that trouble teams all weekend long.
