We're continuing to churn out content from our Prep Redzone North Carolina Exposure Camp last Friday, where over 70 players showed their best stuff in front of college coaches and our staff. We've already made our all-camp teams (Offense and Defense), and we've started some positional deep dives along the way as well. Here I'm doing one of my favorite exercises, and looking at some winners from the camp.

Winners From PRZNC Exposure Camp

While I'm all in on the high school game, I have a background in both college and NFL Draft scouting. One of everybody's favorite draft pieces is the winners and losers. It serves no real purpose to talk about any "losers" at the high school level, so here, we're looking at some winners from Saturday.

That term is intentionally vague. It could be a player, team, position group, or something else entirely. A "winner" in this case isn't necessarily someone who won an athletic testing event. Instead, this piece is dedicated to individual guys who did something to set themselves apart. This doesn't necessarily even mean they were better than other guys, but that they improved their stock.

1) Defensive Line Group

A bit of behind-the-scenes on creating a camp roster. First, we open it to the public. Then we talk to college scouts and send personal invites to players we'd like to see. About two weeks out, we assess the roster and do strategic outreach to create a balanced camp. For example, if we have more impressive receivers than expected, we prioritize defensive backs to cover them and quarterbacks to get them the ball. There's nothing worse than a camp with a position group so strong or so weak that it skews any potential scouting opportunities.

In this case, we ended up with a bunch of strong offensive linemen. Guys like [player_tooltip player_id='865972' first='Jackson' last='Jenkins'], [player_tooltip player_id='1815332' first='Landon' last='Suttle'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1939214' first='Hunter' last='Wingler'] (all early sign-ups) can make defensive linemen silly. At the time, we only had a few defensive linemen signed up, and no one I knew well. I reached out to some of the best defensive line trainers in the state, and Coach Darien Jones at Trenches Elite sent a few of his guys.

Those guys turned out to be some of the best in attendance.

Leesville Road's [player_tooltip player_id='2184175' first='Wyatt' last='Gardner'] showed an explosive first step and a variety of pass-rushing moves. His bend around the edge showed in one-on-ones, and he was named one of the top defensive linemen of the camp.

Rolesville had one defensive lineman in each of the 2027, 2028, and 2029 classes, and all of them flashed in one way or another. I was probably most impressed with rising senior [player_tooltip player_id='2184596' first='Kamaury' last='Corbett'] (another Trenches Elite guy), who flashed elite speed to power and an array of impressive pass-rushing moves. He was buried on the depth chart last year, but should factor in this season. 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2183742' first='Anthony' last='Ward Jr']. and 2029 [player_tooltip player_id='2199074' first='Cameron' last='Freeman'] flashed a few clean wins, as well, and showed the future is bright.

Hough's [player_tooltip player_id='1046790' first='Brayden' last='Hunt'] was a late add, showing his improved power after bulking this offseason. He's a guy who could ultimately develop into an interior guy, but for now, he's a powerful edge rusher with a great first step.

I didn't know much about Summerville (S.C.) edge rusher Demarcus King, but he was one of the best players in attendance, continuing what I've heard has been a great offseason.

I'll have plenty more on each of these guys, but a few more who flashed: [player_tooltip player_id='1670898' first='Colton' last='Martin'] (North Stanly), [player_tooltip player_id='1715229' first='Ty' last='Hefner'] (Newton-Conover), [player_tooltip player_id='2005526' first='Maddox' last='Laws'] (Wake Christian), [player_tooltip player_id='2147433' first='Joshua' last='Williams'] (ALA-Johnston)

2) Slot Receivers

One of my college coaches in attendance asked me ahead of time if I had many taller receivers. I was disappointed to have to report back that I did not. Central Cabarrus' [player_tooltip player_id='2155292' first='Caleb' last='Gray'] signed up late, so that helped, but most of our receivers were in the shorter, quicker mold.

That didn't matter because several slot types had fantastic showings.

I expected Lincolnton's [player_tooltip player_id='1421082' first='RJ' last='Lynch'] to be among the best, and he was, running a second-best 4.52 40 and showing consistent hands in drills. West Stokes receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2112028' first='Jay' last='Taylor'] was fantastic, so much so that he's pre-loaded as a stock-riser. As of now, he's likely to move up at least 25-30 spots in the 2028 rankings. He ran much faster than I'd expected and was quicker in person than I previously thought.

It's been a year since I've seen new North Lenoir transfer [player_tooltip player_id='1194708' first='Kegian' last='Blanchard'] in person. He's put on about 30 pounds, grown an inch or two, and has really improved technically. He had some of the crispest routes of any of the receivers and had two highlight-reel catches. He's more mature mentally and physically than last season, and his growth is obvious.

Newton-Conover's [player_tooltip player_id='590094' first='Amari' last='Coulter'] plays primarily on the outside, but he showed the wiggle necessary to play in tight spaces. He, too, is much bigger than I've seen him. He added a ton of muscle mass, and that should help him improve his already impressive after-the-catch ability.

Perhaps the most impressive, relative to expectation, was Northern Guilford's [player_tooltip player_id='2196432' first='David' last='Evans']. The rising sophomore showed fantastic ball skills and left a defender in the dust on more than one occasion.

A couple more young slot guys who flashed: [player_tooltip player_id='2128796' first='Tyler' last='Worthington'] (ALA-Johnston), Alec Jones (North Mecklenburg), [player_tooltip player_id='2155238' first='Na'Zir' last='King-Chiles'] (West Stokes)

3) Unoffered 2027s

Let me be clear. It is not the time to panic for unoffered 2027 prospects. But it is time to be realistic.

That being said, there were a handful of unoffered 2027s in attendance who I expect to sign with Division-I or high-level Division-II schools.

[player_tooltip player_id='1634632' first='Jaden' last='Hartsfield'] showed plenty of agility and ball skills in a setting that does not favor old-school power backs. He's a good athlete, smart player, and high academic achiever in the classroom.

[player_tooltip player_id='1692741' first='Jackson' last='Laws'] has a scary profile for college coaches: Productive private school tweener. Coming in, I wondered if he'd be strong/long enough to play edge, or if he'd have the movement skills to play off-ball linebacker.

Those are scary questions to ask, because the answer is often no. I rarely find the answer to be yes to both, but Laws may be the exception. I think he could certainly play a stand-up edge rusher role, but his future may be as a high-level off-the-ball linebacker.

As one high school coach in attendance told me: "If I were still at the college level, I'd sign that kid to play Mike today." His 4.75 laser-timed 40 isn't even the best he's run in recent weeks, and his 4.47 short shuttle and 7.06 L-Drill are on pace with some of the NFL Draft's top linebackers.

New Rolesville transfer [player_tooltip player_id='683130' first='Ra'Sean' last='Williams'] may end up the top stock-riser from our event. He ran the best 40, was the only athlete to finish in the top 10 in all four athletic tests, and locked down receivers all night. When it came time for best on best, Williams sought out the tallest tight end in attendance, then made a clean pass breakup 30 yards down the field.

As a sidenote: Williams didn't just turn heads at our camp. He went to UnderArmour the next day and impressed those guys, too. Sometimes you just have to ignore the size and watch the tape.

Finally, defensive backs [player_tooltip player_id='2158963' first='Noah' last='Taylor'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2100553' first='Brandon' last='Lindsey'] stood out for different reasons. Taylor was the most physically impressive athlete in attendance. He's 6'2," 170 pounds, ran a 4.61 40 and broad jumped 9'9." Then he showed great coverage skills in drills that typically favor receivers.

Lindsey is a safety at a camp that often favors corners. He was physical, technically sound, and consistent. Those are three things we love to see from defensive backs in camps, and I came away feeling better about my decision to rank him as the top defensive back in the Alamance County area.
