Top 5 Georgia High School Programs (Spring 2026)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rankings change a ton during the offseason, but these five teams are my top teams in order during the spring.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list {"ordered":true} --> <ol class="wp-block-list"></ol> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><mark class="has-inline-color has-primary-color">Buford</mark></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Buford is coming off a national championship, which was awarded by MaxPreps. They defeated the Carrollton Trojans to win the award, and they are one of the better teams in the nation for a reason. They will be returning some standout players, as the best player set to return to the program could be [player_tooltip player_id='1154979' first='Brendon' last='Davis'], who was one of the interception leaders for the program. They will also be returning [player_tooltip player_id='951335' first='Braylon' last='Williams'], who is going to be a star this season. It is also worth noting that [player_tooltip player_id='419383' first='DJ' last='Hunter'] could be the signal caller for the Wolves, and if that is the case, then they are in great shape.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><mark class="has-inline-color has-primary-color">Carrollton</mark></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Carrollton Trojans are at number two. This was quite difficult, as if someone listed them at No. 1, it would be hard to deny. They will be losing some of their better talent, like [player_tooltip player_id='418494' first='Ryan' last='Mosley']. Luckily for the Trojans, their biggest star returning is the nation's best underclassman quarterback. That QB is [player_tooltip player_id='404832' first='CJ' last='Cypher'], who I believe has a ceiling that may be even higher than former Trojans star Julian Lewis. He will be the key to the success this year, and it would come as no shock if he gets the program back to the state championship this year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><mark class="has-inline-color has-primary-color">Gainesville</mark></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Gainesville Red Elephants are coming in at No. 3 on this list, as this team has a ton of the best talent on their roster returning, including arguably the best quarterback in the state for the class of 2027. That player is [player_tooltip player_id='885409' first='Kharim' last='Hughley'], who was recently named as an Elite 11 finalist for a reason. He is a great signal caller and will have the chance to be even better when he gets to college, as he is now set to be off to Clemson to be with the Clemson Tigers after this season. Gainesville will also return Collin Porterfield, [player_tooltip player_id='1428823' first='Trent' last='Wilcox'], and many more names that will help them along the way.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><mark class="has-inline-color has-primary-color">Grayson</mark></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Grayson was either going to be No. 3 or No. 4 on this list, and they were barely edged out by the Red Elephants. Grayson will be losing [player_tooltip player_id='283913' first='Travis' last='Burgess'], but that isn't anything new, as he finished the season on the bench last season with an injury. The Rams have a ton of returning talent, but will be losing their best player as well. They lost [player_tooltip player_id='212311' first='Tyler' last='Atkinson'] and will be in need of a new star to take over. I believe that star will be [player_tooltip player_id='1404764' first='Percy' last='Wilson']. This team is loaded with talent and will make a run in the playoffs, if not win the state as a whole.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><mark class="has-inline-color has-primary-color"><strong>Thomas County Central</strong></mark></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thomas County Central will be returning one of the better wide receivers in the state, as they will be returning [player_tooltip player_id='487904' first='Jabari' last='Watkins']. They will also be returning one of the better players in the rushing attack, as they will be returning [player_tooltip player_id='2099274' first='Jordan' last='McNeil']. This team has a ton of talent and will be one of the better teams when it comes to being balanced. They went undefeated last year, and they could do that again this year, as some of their top players from a year ago will be back.
