Week that was in 5A…The best part about conducting polls is, in the end, they're just for fun. The championship is decided on the field. Ranking teams each week is good for us here at Prep Redzone because it provides weekly insight into how they're building a resume and performing at a given time. Basically, what we're doing here is research and taking our best guesses at how schools stack up. In 5A this season, at least a half dozen programs look like they can make deep postseason runs. Among that group, Dowling Catholic has the best case for being the current favorite. The Maroons have ripped off seven wins in a row after losing a one-point heartbreaker against rival Valley in the season-opener. The latest triumph came Friday night, a 27-10, Senior-Night victory against Centennial. [player_tooltip player_id='401674' first='Joey' last='Nahas'] completed 10 of 16 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown without a turnover. [player_tooltip player_id='856072' first='Ian' last='Middleton'] rumbled for 160 yards (5.7 YPC) and a pair of scores, [player_tooltip player_id='1362520' first='Preston' last='Hofbauer'] hauled in a 70-yard TD catch. [player_tooltip player_id='1240478' first='Joel' last='Sankoh'] produced six solo tackles, including one for loss, and Maddox Coppola contributed five solo stops...It's not often that a team loses to an unranked opponent and remains No. 2, but that's the case here with Northwest, which dropped a 31-28 decision to rival Waukee Friday night. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1204436' first='Mack' last='Heitland'] performed well again despite the setback. He completed 17 of 24 throws for 154 yards and added 45 yards (7.5 YPC) and a score on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id='1361719' first='Ryan' last='Woodruff'] rushed for 137 yards and three TDs, and Hayden Grisham and [player_tooltip player_id='1619483' first='Austin' last='Van Horn'] combined for 17.0 tackles, 10 of which were solo...Hat tip to the Warriors for slowing the Northwest locomotive that was barreling through the season to this point. [player_tooltip player_id='1814139' first='Jai' last='White'] exploded for 100 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries. [player_tooltip player_id='1938506' first='Kayden' last='Crispin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1199301' first='Therston' last='Nebo'] teamed up for 15.0 tackles with 10 of them being solo. Crispin also forced a fumble.
