Pella's homecoming night and undefeated record was spoiled in a classic rivalry showdown against Newton. The game started off close, with the teams tied at 14 with under 30 seconds left at halftime. However, in a stunning turn of events, Pella decided to take a shot at the end of the half, but the snap went over the QB's head, rolling into the end zone, and ultimately recovered by the Cardinals, who now suddenly held a 21-14 lead at halftime. The Cardinals would never give up the lead for the rest of the night, staying one step ahead of Pella, and although Pella managed to get one last drive to try to win, it was too late, and the clock ran out to let Newton pull off a bitter upset in hostile territory.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1619687' first='Caden' last='Klein'] (SR) - Steadily leading the Cardinals' offense with slow, progressive drives to chip away at Pella's defense, Klein finished 7 of 12 for 102 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT while rushing for 67 yards on 19 carries and 2 rushing TDs. He also added a team-high 7 tackles (All solo) on defense.

The number of undefeated teams in this conference nearly went down to 1 over the weekend, as Gilbert had a close call, edging out a 2-3 Carlisle team on homecoming night. A low-scoring battle, Gilbert relied almost completely on their run-game to eat up the clock, with the team attempting just 1 pass and rushing for 313 yards. With an average of 7.3 YPC, this strategy worked for the most part, and following Carlisle's field goal in the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to run out most of the clock that gave the Wildcats no opportunity to strike back. Gilbert continues to build steam as one of the strongest contenders in the conference.

Cantonwine also recorded 6 tackles (4 solo) on defense.

Coming off a 3-game win streak, including a statement win over Decorah, an energized Bobcats' group were poised to take down North Scott on homecoming night. The game started off strong for the Bobcats, emerging with a 14-7 lead at halftime. However, their offense was unable to muster up any points in the second half while the defense made a strong stand. While the Lancers outgained the Bobcats (232-175), they were unable to find the end zone until late in the 4th quarter. Ultimately, it was a pair of huge special-teams plays that proved the difference in this game, with the Bobcats scoring on a kick return TD early, and on the Lancers' final scoring drive, their extra point attempt was blocked, allowing the Bobcats to hold them off for the win. Having won 4 straight following an 0-2 start, their momentum is through the roof right now, and their poised to continue driving that momentum into the playoffs.
