One of the quarterbacks that looks most physically ready for the next level, Tru McBride Tru McBride 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2027 State IA stands at a tall, athletic and strong 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, allowing him to see over the defense, while also maintaing a solid base that’s tough to bring down on the run or in the pocket. Willing to put his shoulder down and mow over would-be tacklers, the 2027 gunslinger has a little Mark Gronowski to him when he takes off on designed runs.
McBride has a lightning quick release along with an arm that can make a ton of throws — over the middle, down the sideline and about as deep as any other QB can launch it in Iowa. When a play breaks down, he doesn’t immediately look to take off, either. Keeping his eyes down field, his arm strength allows him to find open receivers.
Last season, he completed 94-of-173 passes (54.1%) for 1,247 yards and eight scores last season, along with 53 carries for 177 yards and nine scores. If given the freedom to throw it deep more consistently this season, McBride could have a major breakout senior campaign.

The No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 class, Tru McBride Tru McBride 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Fort Dodge | 2027 State IA passed for 1,518 yards and 18 touchdowns last season as a sophomore. Standing at 6’3″ and 210 pounds, McBride certainly has the best physical tools of any quarterback on this list, with some serious arm talent to go along with it.
McBride can make throws over the middle, fire passes to the sideline in the holes of a zone and sling it on the run. With a big wind-up of a release, McBride can tighten up his throwing motion a bit, and become a bit of a better decision-maker in the pass, but he’s got the tools and two seasons left to make things happen. With leading receiver, Tytrell Mosley Tytrell Mosley 5'7" | 150 lbs | WR Fort Dodge | 2026 IA and Iowa PWO commit Noah Daniel Noah Daniel 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Fort Dodge | 2026 State IA returning next season, along with Oklahoma State wrestling commit, Dreshaun Ross back after missing last season due to shoulder surgery, expect McBride’s numbers to go up big time this fall.
With interest from Iowa, Kansas State and a barrage of FCS programs, if McBride can cut down on the turnovers, he should easily find himself on a D1 roster following his high school career in Fort Dodge.

When viewing McBride’s sophomore highlight video, his arm strength stands out right away. It’s there when he’s firing away from the pocket and stays with him when throwing on the move. McBride’s long strides help him avoid pressure laterally and benefit him when he takes off running. He does a nice job surveying the field and going through his progressions. With the physical tools and advanced feel for the position, McBride’s potential is considerable. As a a 10th-grader in 2024, he completed 58 percent of his throws for 1,518 yards and 18 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. McBride added 112 yards (6.6 YPC) and a pair of scores on the ground.
