2028 Pendleton County ATH [player_tooltip player_id='951269' first='Colton' last='Roberson'] proved in game one why he's one of the best athletes in his class, regardless of classification. Entering his sophomore season as the starting quarterback, Roberson completed 24/38 passes for 442 yards and 5 touchdowns to pair with his 109 rushing yards and 2 more scores. Ranked as a LB, Roberson made his mark on defense as well with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery to help lead the Wildcats to a big opening week win over AAA Keyser, which earned our Week One Class A Game Ball.

East Hardy had a valiant effort against defending state-champion Wahama in game one for a while, and new starting quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='864946' first='Trevor' last='Roof'] kept the Cougars in the game. The 2027 QB/ATH completed 15/21 passes for 288 yards and 4 touchdowns and added two more scores on the ground for 80 rushing yards. Roof will lead East Hardy to some wins this season, even with a tough opening night loss to a very good White Falcons team.

Stepping in at quarterback at the beginning of the season while the original starter heals from an injury, 2027 Tucker County ATH [player_tooltip player_id='862706' first='Lucas' last='Barb'] did a great job in week one for the Mountain Lions. He has quarterback experience from his younger days and showed them off in the 40-7 win over Pocahontas County. Barb completed 10/17 passes for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also rushing for 36 yards and a score. He also had a great performance on defense with 7 tackles, 3 TFLs, and 2 sacks for a complete game.

Barb's top target in week one was one of the best receivers in Class A this season, 2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1139036' first='Reid' last='Kisamore']. After seeing Kisamore several times this summer at camps, we knew he was going to have a huge senior year for the Mountain Lions. He began that campaign with 7 receptions for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns, which was at the top of the receiving board in the state for week one. There aren't many athletes in Class A who can run step-for-step with Kisamore with the kind of speed he possesses.

[player_tooltip player_id='1272608' first='Eli' last='Pauley'] led the Sherman Tide to a big week one victory over a much-improved AA Sissonville squad. The 2027 QB completed 9/13 passes for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns, while adding 62 yards on the ground. It was his play on defense, however, that really helped secure the win as Pauley picked off two Indians' passes in the 48-41 victory. He'll be one of the top quarterbacks in Class A this season and will have the Tide among the top small schools.

Tug Valley had a tough week one defeat against county rival Mingo Central, but several Panthers still managed big performances in the 35-30 loss. 2027 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1145831' first='Cameron' last='Slone'] had 5 catches for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns in the narrow loss, and is one of the best receivers at the Class A level. He's been extremely productive for the Panthers since he was a freshman, and is an under-the-radar WR prospect in the 2027 class who will get some college attention in the near future.
