A massive matchup between two of the top schools in Class 4A, the battle between North Polk and Pella proved to be a defensive affair, with Pella shutting out the Comets during the first half and leading 9-7 heading into the 4th quarter. The Comets were plagued with an inconsistent performance marred with 3 interceptions thrown, but they ultimately clicked in the 4th quarter to take a 15-12 lead with less than 5 and a half minutes to go. However, thanks to an overall very well-balanced performance by Pella's offense, they reclaimed the lead with a minute and a half remaining, with the Comets' last-ditch effort ending with the third interception on the last play of the game, giving Pella their first win over the Comets since 2021 as they emerge with a 4-0 record at the halfway point for the second season in a row.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1240470' first='Emmanuel' last='Diers'] (SR) - Playing a huge role for Pella's offense on Friday night, Diers not only led the team with 156 rushing yards on 32 carries (4.9 YPC) and a rushing TD, but he also led them in receiving, finishing with 100 yards on 10 catches and a receiving TD, while also adding 3 tackles on defense.

Sitting with a 1-2 record, North Scott's momentum was wavering unsteadily as they headed to Clear Creek Amana, who was poised to pull off a stunner in front of their crowded stadium. That possibility emerged with the Clippers taking a 20-10 lead early in the third quarter, but the Lancers fought their way back, leading to a back-and-forth shootout at the end, with the score at regulation remaining deadlocked at 27. In the end, the Clippers were held to just a field goal on the first drive while the Lancers were able to get the winning score facing a 3rd and long situation. The win was vital toward maintaining a firm grip on North Scott's destiny going forward as they look to build off this thrilling win to get themselves back toward the top of the conference.

Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1361478' first='Miller' last='Haedt'] (JR) - Haedt would finish the night 18 of 25 for 204 yards and 2 TDs passing while rushing for 63 yards on 17 carries and a rushing TD. His game winning TD throw in OT came on an excellent rollout where he got out of the pocket and slinged the ball to an open man at the goal-line.

With a heightened atmosphere due to the homecoming week, paired with their last two wins over Carroll coming out in blowout fashion, the expectation was that the Titans would blow Carroll out of the water. However, Carroll came ready to compete, and what ensued was a shootout that went down to the wire. Both teams were able to dominate on the ground, with the offenses combining for a total 501 yards of rushing. After a back-and-forth 4th quarter, Lewis Central claimed the lead on a touchdown with just under 3 minutes to go and held off the Tigers' final drive to secure their 4th straight win over Carroll in order to get back to .500.

The matchup between these two was the first since 2017. Though the Warriors blew out the Rams in the previous two matchups, this game proved to be a low-scoring defensive matchup. After a 7-7 tie at halftime, the Warriors took the lead early in the 3rd quarter. Glenwood's offense never fully clicked, with their run-game almost completely bottled up, the Rams' had to rely almost exclusively on the passing game. In the end, the Warriors were able to shut it down and seal the win with an interception with a minute and a half remaining to hand Glenwood their first loss of the season.

Western Dubuque was in a rough spot taking on an undefeated Decorah team on the road on their homecoming night. However, after a 7-7 first quarter, the Bobcats suddenly exploded as they outscored Decorah 21-3 over the next two quarters to essentially put the game away. Thanks in part to a highly productive offense which compiled 373 yards of total offense, Decorah's defense, which had given up a total of 35 points over the first 3 games of the season was shredded as the Bobcats put that exact number of points on them Friday night. The win over a top contender in Class 4A should give the Bobcats some much needed momentum going into the second half of the season.
