He's a quiet worker and excellent zone safety. He's not the flashiest guy, but he has excellent coverage skills and understands what offenses are doing. He can play both safety positions and can really move. He flies on film and it's easy to see how he ended up with over 50 tackles and three picks for Murphy. As a freshman, he was one of the team's leading tacklers, but as a sophomore, Helms played a more coverage-heavy role at corner, which paid off in the form of seven interceptions. He's unafraid of contact and is willing to bang around in the box. He's an adept zone safety, capable of playing in multiple alignments. He's at his best when he's squared up against the quarterback in a deep zone.
