As a rule of thumb, players who want consistent playing time on Southern Durham’s defense need to be able to play multiple positions. That versatility is common in one of the best secondaries in the state, and immediately jumps out on Whimper’s profile. He can play outside or inside, and I think he projects best as a slot corner, as I think he could be a multi-year starter at that position in college. He has excellent length and recovery speed, but his best traits are his deceleration and explosion. He’s able to change direction at the top of routes or peel off his receiver to make plays when the ball goes elsewhere. He’s a sure tackler and limits yardage after the catch, a bonus when he’s working in limited space inside.

One of the better slot corners in the state, Whimper moves well in limited space and matches quicker receivers well. He’s able to make consistent plays on the ball, and even though his raw stats dipped in 2025, he makes so few mistakes that opponents often don’t look his way.

Whimper had a huge sophomore year, shining from a ball production and tackling standpoint. He can line up in a variety of ways and he can be used to match opponents, moving around the field. He plays a bit of safety and corner and if he makes a play on the ball, watch out, because he’s a threat to turn into a weapon with the ball in his hands.
