A new campaign gets underway on Aug. 29 with teams from across the state pursuing that magical run to a November appearance in the UNI-Dome.

Prep Redzone Iowa is getting readers ready for the action with group and district previews. You can find capsules on all 36 teams in Class 5A linked above. Here's a breakdown of programs in 4A District 4:

CLEAR CREEK AMANA

2024 Record: 6-4 (4A Playoff Qualifier)

Top Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='1242954' first='Conlan' last='Poynton'], QB/ATH; Ethan Vice, RB/DB; Noah Collis, RB; Nick Daniel, WR; [player_tooltip player_id='1621055' first='Tay' last='Seals'], TE; [player_tooltip player_id='1242952' first='Aren' last='Schlemme'], DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1620030' first='Dylan' last='Schrock'], LB; Aidan Schrock, LB.

Notable Losses: Joey Dains; Cale Nash; Cale Berry; Owen Rosenberg; Trace Robertson; Nolan Howell; Eliyah Kabolo; Ben Haughey; Brody Fairholm; Brody Clubb; Vinnie Keller; Jacek Wauters; Cole Smith.

Key Games: Sept. 19 vs North Scott; Oct. 10 vs Newton; Oct. 17 at Pella

Outlook: Like most programs, Clear Creek Amana graduated plenty of production. A group on the rise, having returned to the postseason following to 3-6 campaigns, the Clippers will see how strong they are as a program with how they make up for those losses. Poynton is a super athlete playing quarterback with two very capable running backs behind him in Vice and Collins, the former also contributing on defense. Seals flashes high upside as a tight end and defense end. Dylan and Aidan Schrock are excellent defenders at linebacker, and Schlemme holds it down in the secondary. While the returnees are a great foundation on which to build the 2025 team, guys like Wyatt Key, [player_tooltip player_id='1644911' first='Avery' last='Sorensen'], Brody Schrock, Kasyn Vandeberg, Aiden Gross, Ian Kelley, Evan Waring, Tucker Stockman, Tate Burken, Gabe James, Rashad Carter-Jackson, Silas Cobb, [player_tooltip player_id='1657050' first='Bradyn' last='Starbuck'], [player_tooltip player_id='1207833' first='Colton' last='Wolcott'], [player_tooltip player_id='1331146' first='Jonah' last='Drake'], [player_tooltip player_id='1035313' first='Nolan' last='Dao'], [player_tooltip player_id='1596516' first='Texton' last='Bollers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1508990' first='Tyler' last='Seidl'] will need to seize their opportunities for a return to back the playoffs.

GRINNELL

2024 Record: 6-3 (3A)

Top Returnees: Beni Kiphanzu, RB/DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1204524' first='Josh' last='Ringler'], RB/LB; Kellan Harter, WR/DB; Trenton Scheck, DB/WR; Trenten Huls, DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1369795' first='Jack' last='Gallagher'], LB; Keaton Iverson, LB; [player_tooltip player_id='1204515' first='Will' last='Slagle'], OL/DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1369794' first='Corbin' last='Kizer'], OL/DL.

Notable Losses: Brady Coffman; Broc Heishman; Kayne Pavey; Jack Hoopes; Logan McDonald; Caden Witham; [player_tooltip player_id='1687059' first='Junior' last='Guzman'].

Key Games: Sept. 26 vs Clear Creek Amana; Oct. 10 vs Marion; Oct. 24 vs Pella

Outlook: The Tigers move up a classification after missing the postseason in 2025 despite six wins. They must find replacements at key positions, but a good amount of talent returns. Slagle is one of the best offensive linemen in the country and also will contribute on defense. Kiphanzu, Ringler, Harter and Trenton Scheck shine as two-way players. Gallagher and Iverson are an excellent linebacking duo, and Huls makes plays in the back end. Kizer is an asset in the trenches. Look for student-athletes that includes Jake Van Compernolle, Brooks Vosburg, Aaden Hoopes, Eddie Harseim, Breyen Innis, Luis Rodriguez-Gonzalez, Tyler Kostow, Jacob Burnett abd Kegan Hobbs to compete for more playing time.

OSKALOOSA

2024 Record: 2-7

Top Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='1153953' first='Kayne' last='Boender'], QB/DB; Tyler Edgar, QB/WR; AJ Walker, RB; Jalin Woodard, RB; [player_tooltip player_id='1619921' first='Heavon' last='Knox'], WR/DB; Trey Parks, LB/TE; Brock Beerbower, DL/OL; [player_tooltip player_id='1466769' first='Parker' last='Jordan'], DL/OL.

Notable Losses: Maddux Ashman; Dom Piersel; Grady Kool; Jaden DeRonde; Lukas Toubekis; Caden Johnson.

Key Games: Aug. 29 at Ottumwa; Sept. 26 at Newton; Oct. 3 vs Grinnell

Outlook: The bad news is that Oskaloosa is coming off of a two-win season. That plenty of players return with lessons learned from that experience is good news. Boender and Edgar are versatile athletes that can play quarterback. Walker is a well-rounded running back, and Woodard is a talented complement back there. Knox stands out on both sides of the ball, and Parks also contributes as a two-way performer. Beerbower and Jordan are difference-makers in the trenches. Jalin Woodard, Cael Ashman, Ayden Plumb, Oscar Chambers, Courtland Metier, Trevin Griffin, Elijah Roy, Brendan Anderson, Kolby Williams, Jonah DeVore, Kaden Toubekis, Kyson Smith, Grady Kennedy, Maddox Maxwell, [player_tooltip player_id='1242948' first='Max' last='Roach'] and others have a chance to earn more time on the field.

PELLA

2024 Record: 11-2 (4A State Finalist)

Top Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='1240470' first='Emmanuel' last='Diers'], RB/DB; [player_tooltip player_id='897440' first='Harrison' last='Mullens'], WR/DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1620031' first='Rex' last='Rhamy'], DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1644914' first='Kyler' last='VanMaanen'], LB; Ty VanVliet, DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1581293' first='Nate' last='Warner'], LB; Gage Branderhorst, LB; [player_tooltip player_id='1240472' first='Palmer' last='Hemming'], OL/DL; Benjamin Dothager, OL/DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1620070' first='Jace' last='Peterson'], DL/OL; Austin Schulte, LB.

Notable Losses: Colin Kerndt; Bailey Shetterly; Tyson Barnes; Lake Cowman; Nathan VandeLune; Ben Wilcox; Garrett O'Halloran.

Key Games: Sept. 12 at North Scott; Oct. 3 vs Newton; Oct. 17 vs Clear Creek Amana

Outlook: The strength of Pella's program will be tested as it absorbs the loss of key players from last year's run to the state championship game. The Dutch have reloaded a lot through the years, and the 2025 team has a chance to be really good, too. Diers and Mullens (South Dakota State) are big time playermakers with the ball in their hands. Warner, Rhamy and VanMaanen are tackling machines. Branderhorst looks poised for a breakout, and he could be joined by Schulte. VanVliet and Peterson anchor a salty defensive front, and Hemming and Dothager hold it down on the O-Line. Opportunities will be there for guys like Riker Branderhorst, Michael Manning, Logan VanDenBroek, Blake DeHeus, [player_tooltip player_id='1198121' first='Nathaniel' last=''] Ligman, Hunter Brummel, Jonathan Panknen, Trace Hopkins and [player_tooltip player_id='1602903' first='Blake' last='Davis'].

MARION

2024 Record: 2-7

Top Returnees: Andrew Ahmann, QB; [player_tooltip player_id='1691201' first='Aiden' last='Baley'], WR/DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1619990' first='Matthew' last='Danninger'], WR; Noah Fischer, DB; Landon Tilkes, LB/K; Carson Frommelt, OL/DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1620121' first='Gideon' last='Hansen'], DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1695271' first='Elijah' last='Dreyer'], DL/TE.

Notable Losses: Kaleb Diers; Creighton Wheeler; Aden Nicholls; Cael Schultz; Aden Nicholls; Daegon Michaels; Myles Gatrelle; Kolby Beltz; Lucas Stearns; Logan Tilkes; Ethan Halm; Brady Walsh.

Key Games: Sept. 26 vs Pella; Oct. 3 at Clear Creek Amana; Oct. 24 at Newton

Outlook: The Wolves are hunting for their first postseason berth (non-Covid year) since 2013. It will take some work but they have the returning pieces to take a step forward in 2025. Ahmann flashed potential at quarterback last fall. He can rely on Baley and Danninger to deliver on the outside. Fischer, Frommelt, Hansen, Dreyer and Landon Tilkes give Marion a chance to be formidable defensively right out of the gate. The Wolves will need help from inexperienced student-athletes ready to jump on their opportunities. The group includes Elliott Zrudsky, Cole Goodrich, Brandon Hatfield, Nathan Usher, Aiden Hess and Landen DeSotel.

NEWTON

2024 Record: 6-4 (4A Playoff Qualifier)

Top Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='1619687' first='Caden' last='Klein'], QB; [player_tooltip player_id='1366537' first='Isaiah' last='Hansen'], ATH; Qhjuan Coley, RB; [player_tooltip player_id='1619913' first='Finn' last='Martin'], TE; Jace Auen, LB; Dawson Maki, DB; [player_tooltip player_id='1620116' first='Colton' last='Northcutt'], LB; [player_tooltip player_id='1756986' first='Zach' last='Felten'], OL/DL; [player_tooltip player_id='1532913' first='Nick' last='Milburn'], LB; Coleby Revell, DL.

Notable Losses: Reilly Trease; Skyler Milheiser; Cade Bauer; Peyton Rozendaal; Trey Davidson; Christian Ergenbright; Damien Smith; Kaiden Rogers; Lincoln Peterson; Derek Wermager; Jose Benitez.

Key Games: Sept. 5 at North Polk; Oct. 3 at Pella; Oct. 10 at Clear Creek Amana

Outlook: The Cardinals will be seeking their fourth postseason appearance in a row. Three straight trips represent the longest stretch since at least 2007. Newton is well positioned to make it back to the playoffs with many key returnees. Klein is a dual-threat nightmare for opposing defenses and then delivers tackles on the other side of the ball. Milburn already is one of the state's most productive defenders, and he has a lot of help on that unit in the form of Auen, Maki, Northcutt and Revell. Hansen is a top 2027 recruit that can contribute a lot at multiple positions. Coley and Martin are playmakers on offense. The Cardinals will look to a group that includes Nick Thomason, Kyler Griffin, Gabe Otto, Christopher Deanda, Aiden Robson, Micah Mattes, Henry Allen, Asher Rhoads, Trevor Manka, Zach Sheffield, Koltt Ahn, [player_tooltip player_id='1689750' first='Ayden' last='Hummel'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1699640' first='Keegan' last='Bretthauer'] in an effort to make up for graduation losses.
