CFI Carolinas MEGA Showcase Top Wide Receivers & Tight Ends

The Charlotte Football Insiders (CFI) Carolinas MEGA Showcase brought over 270 athletes from all over the Carolinas and put them in front of over 25 colleges in order to be recruited and possibly offered college scholarships. CFI in the last 5 years has had over 100 players gain offers through exposure from their showcases and events. This analysis will focus on the top wide receivers and tight ends selected by the CFI Coaching Staff as Top Performers from the event. In this position group, coaches selected top performers from the upperclassmen and the lowerclassmen in attendance.    Landon, as usual, put on a show in the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase, showing some excellent footwork and discipline in his route running. Landon has good speed and excellent agility with the football in his hands. He can be a threat on special teams as a returner along with being a slot receiver. He will provide a nice changeup in the receiving code for the Lions this upcoming season.     I thought Ryder had a strong showcase overall. I enjoyed watching Ryder run a variety of routes and find success during the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase. Ryder showed some strong hands and made some impressive catches overall. Ryder can also play defensive back, and going into his junior year will be an important overall player for the Trojans.     Arion came out and showed some good things, primarily as a prospect with some real speed and athletic ability down the field. Arion doesn't have much film but is a 2 sport player as he also makes some plays on the basketball court for the Hawks. Arion has a chance to step out of the spotlight and be a major receiving threat for the Hawks this upcoming season.     Michael was impressive with his performance - his combination of speed and route running backed up what he put on film last year with 700 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. I think Michael can excel both as an outside receiver and in the slot on the next level. I also appreciated the types of routes Michael was winning on - all three levels of the defense he consistently was making plays throughout the showcase.     Every report I received about King coming into the showcase was that he was a speed demon, and he showed that today primarily on downfield routes against a number of defensive backs in attendance. There are a number of talented receivers in the Lions depth chart, but King can carve out a role winning against single coverage down the field in specific situations. I will be interested to see how King develops as we get into the upcoming season.     Kameron has excelled throughout the 7 on 7 circuit and he carried over those performances into this showcase setting. Kameron excels in winning jump balls in the air, and he showed that trait in this showcase well. There is opportunity for Kameron to break into the Mustangs' rotation at receiver, and it will be exciting to see if he can get on the field on the Varsity level this year and make some plays.     Taquann, or "Texas" as he is known by his teammates, ran some really good routes in the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase. Taquann also caught the ball well, and showed some good agility and change of direction skills throughout the agility circuit portion of the showcase. Taquann earned his first offer from Concord University at the conclusion of the showcase.     A slot receiver for the Eagles, I saw Zahir make some good plays in person last season, and he did the same at this showcase. Zahir caught the ball well and showed some nice athleticism and speed throughout the showcase. This upcoming season should see his production increase along with his role in the Eagles' offense this year.     Xavier made some plays on Varsity last year as a freshman, and he showed some impressive progress on the field at this showcase. Xavier showed some good technique in his releases off the line of scrimmage, and stacked defensive backs well down field during 1 on 1's on deep passes. Xavier shows strong hands and runs good routes as well. He should have a big role this season in the Mountaineers' offense.     Doc jumped on my radar in a strong way at this showcase. He consistently found a way to get behind receivers during the 1 on 1 portion of the showcase. Doc also plays basketball and has a promising future on the hardwood. With Doc's size and overall athletic ability, he will definitely be a player to watch for us in the years to come.     I really liked Greyson's performance here at this showcase. A tall and physical receiver, Greyson made a number of impressive contested catches throughout the day. Greyson has strong hands and can win down the field against solo coverage against defensive backs. After his showcase performance, Greyson picked up his first offer from Hampden-Sydney College.     Hudson really got a chance to show his downfield catching ability well in this showcase. Hudson was able to gain separation consistently against linebackers in 1 on 1 coverage. On film, Hudson shows his versatility as he blocks well from both an H-Back and an inline blocking role. Hudson should once again be an important piece in the Pumas' offensive attack this season.     Gavin showed some good things throughout the showcase - mainly his ability to flex out wide and run routes against both linebackers and defensive backs. Gavin's height allows him to win balls in the air against solo coverage, and he displayed good speed to separate against slower players in 1 on 1's. I think he's a vertical tight end who's currently under the radar and could be a recruiting steal for a college on the next level.     Landon showed a special ability to make contested catches on a number of different routes. I liked Landon's route running ability and at 6'3, he provides a catch radius that allows his quarterback a nice safe target to get the ball to consistently. Landon should have a strong upcoming season on the field for the Storm.
