Week 5 is almost in the books, and once again, there were plenty of weather delays and several fantastic games. I'm back, as always, with my thoughts on the results and performances. This isn't a film study or deep dive; instead, I'm giving my raw thoughts and instant reaction to the night's games.

Notable Results That Caught My Attention

Sometimes when I do these instant analysis pieces, I'll have specific angles. Other times, I look through scores and just see what stands out. Here are three results that caught my attention.

West Iredell Rolls

I like West Iredell a lot, but even earlier this week, I questioned whether the offense could play clean enough to score a bunch of points. Well, a ____ win over a Maiden team I'd ranked one spot above them might just put that question to bed.

[player_tooltip player_id='2404760' first='Treylen' last='Davidson'] might be the extra playmaker the offense needed, as he had a breakout game for the Warriors. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1616122' first='Ja'Braylan' last='Patterson'] hit him for three touchdowns, while [player_tooltip player_id='1321028' first='Amario' last='Spence'] added two on the ground in a statement win to continue conference play.

Walkertown Wins Late

We knew that Reidsville would feel some loss of the best senior class in North Carolina history, but I didn't think they'd be in danger of not winning the conference.

Enter Walkertown, another talented team that lost plenty of playmakers. In an ugly game, [player_tooltip player_id='2167311' first='Nasir' last='Conrad'] proved to be the difference. One of the top running backs in the state, Conrad caught a touchdown, then scored the game-winner with under a minute left.

J.H. Rose Takes Round 1

If I wasn't clear in my subheading, this was Round 1. Middle Creek and J.H. Rose will meet again in the playoffs, likely at Rose once again after the Rampants survived a late comeback to win 36-35.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146844' first='Nicolas' last='Bocciardi'] had a big game for the Mustangs, including a punt return touchdown. The Mustangs moved it well on the ground, but Rose survived thanks to two late [player_tooltip player_id='1852705' first='Jaleek' last='Parson'] touchdowns, the last on a good throw from [player_tooltip player_id='2404855' first='Chase' last='Davis'].

I had high hopes, and this game delivered.

Olympic Take Down Cox Mill

There were a lot of "this team converted a couple of two-point conversions, and this one didn't" games Friday, including Olympic-Cox Mill.

[player_tooltip player_id='1610634' first='Kenyan' last='White'] had a couple of nice runs, including a key two-point conversion, which proved the difference in a 22-21 win. [player_tooltip player_id='1299735' first='Juice' last='Hall'] had a nice game for Cox Mill to continue his strong start to the season.

North Davidson Takes Davie County to the Brink

While this was a nice, controlled effort from Davie County, I need to give props to 5A North Davidson. After starting 4-0 for the first time in a decade, the Black Knights sat tied in the fourth quarter against a talented 8A team. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='2404803' first='Boston' last='Nisley'] had two more touchdowns, bringing his season total to 13.

The running back combination of [player_tooltip player_id='1892496' first='Dominik' last='Stamatien'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2055503' first='Zack' last='Ross'] was a known commodity. The emergence of a legitimate air attack makes the Black Knights a legitimate dark horse.

Garner-Southeast Raleigh Go Down to the Wire

Two 7A juggernauts kicked off conference play with a bang.

Southeast Raleigh's entire array of offensive weapons got in on the action, with touchdowns from [player_tooltip player_id='1251476' first='James' last='Adams'] IV, [player_tooltip player_id='1318732' first='Adam' last='Saunders'], and [player_tooltip player_id='378921' first='Christian' last='Freeman']. Garner's running game made plenty of headway against a strong Southeast Raleigh front. That bodes well for the Trojans in the future.

The Bulldogs scored early in the fourth quarter, then held on for a 27-23 win.

Lake Norman Topples Reagan

A day after picking up a huge East Carolina offer, Lake Norman receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1657753' first='Doc' last='Caldwell'] made a massive catch to down Reagan. Lake Norman quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1616126' first='Kaden' last='Craft'] hit Caldwell on a late 50/50 ball in the end zone for a 31-24 win. Craft was excellent with his arm and legs, scoring two touchdowns on the ground as well.

What'd I miss? Let me know about scores, stats, and storylines on Twitter/X (@whelms21)
